The reason rust is not really simulated in terms of materials is probably because of game engine limitations although oldsfullsize mod has an amazing simulation of rust. --- Post updated --- Any plans for school bus variants? I would love to be speeding down west coast USA and crashing into civilians although I could do that with the wentward s3 mod. But good job so far you’re making me happy!
If we're talking about "simulating" anything, it would be dust if nothing else. Rust operates on too long scales to care. But if there were several stages of car dustiness, the skin could be swapped for the progressively more dusty appearance as you drive the car around (maybe as a function of driven distance and specifically offroad distance). It works like that in Mafia II.
I think why all the cars are clean in game. Is that simulated mud is planned in the future. I saw some indications of that in the jbeam structure. I could definitely add a muddy or dusty skin here and there. Not sure how it will combine with the colorable paint though --- Post updated --- That would be based on a heavy truck chassis, not car one like this --- Post updated --- The professional way to do these textures is to use software where you paint the texture directly on the 3D model. Check out some random tutorial for rust in something like "substance painter" The software also contains algoritms that help you automatically putting things only in corners, on sharp edges, just on the bottom etc
I stumbled across some sheets online for ford model a variants: Looking at it I thought th phaeton model wasn't in your roadmap --- Post updated --- I Thought of an Ice cream truck to would be funny
Genuinely excited for this! I agree with the above commenter about a good quality worn/dirty skin and a rusty/rotten skin.
Ah yeah I forgot that one. Ice-cream car is a good idea. And the body shape is like the towncar but with a closed back. And the bells on top of the windscreen are fun --- Post updated --- Actually I think this version is more fun/original: --- Post updated --- I'm not sure if it's possible to make rusty skins that still allow for coloring of the paint...
It’s possible, almost all the vanilla cars have it, and I’ve made one before (kind of). Just look at how the vanilla skins do it.
you keep mentioning a heavy truck chassis I couldn't find it in the road map though are you planning on making a heavy truck based on the everton
The heavy truck chassis will be a totally different project. Historically this was known as the Ford Model AA or Double A if you want to find more examples. You can try it out in Mudrunner, if you have it, there is a mod called the GAZ AAA (Soviet clone of the Model AA) The truck chassis has lots of different builds (the engine and nose are the same) but different wheels, multiple axles, semi truck with trailers, large vans, wreckers, tree loggers, dump trucks, fire engines, tankers, busses etc. You can see how much work that is The Hank mod others are making here is also partially based on this.
I have a question for the modders here. Is it possible to have the wheel color setting be separate from the 3 body colors? I'd like to have all 3 colors available for the body so I can do two tone (bottom half, top half) + pinstripe/trim color. But fords also often came with loads of options for colors on the wheels. So I'd like to give people that freedom. But the standard color system only supports 3 different colors. Have people figured out an alternative way to achieve a 4th color setting?
I don't know how to create mods, but how about mixing 2 and 3 colors and giving the wheels the resulting color? I know it sounds silly.
First of all im not an experienced modder in any way, but the way beamng works is by utilizing the RGB color (Red as the first pallette, Green as the second, and third is the Blue one), hence why there isnt a 4rd color pallette. The only workaround (I can only think of) is that making precolored rims or an option to still have the colorable rim depending on the config or the use of it.
Ah ok, so i'd just have a whole selection menu of different colored rims. Blue 21" Rim Purple 21" Rim Pink 21" Rim Blue 23" Rim Purple 23" Rim Pink 23" Rim And then give them all separate textures with different colors?
Why wouldn't the third color slot work? Most skins don't use it, anyways. Also, those are some interesting wheel colors.
Can the wheels be included in the skin like other options. If so i can just make the wheels be part of that and then let the skin determine if the are colorable. But that would be less flexible. Because then the wheels always have to be painted in the decal editor. Maybe I can just have 3 variants for each rim that select which of the 3 color selectors it will use. --- Post updated --- It's all in the name of giving people as much creative freedom as possible to make all kinds of cars but within the theme of the time period.
I'm not sure if they can be colorable via a skin, since I've never seen it (if I recall correctly). But, for organization's sake, you can make the separate models with different colors as a drop down once you select the wheel, like how you select the tire. For example: Rim______21" Rim \/ ------Color_____Blue ------Tire______Bias-Ply Tire This can be accomplished by changing the model with the "Color" section instead of the initial rim selection. Dunno if I explained this well but it would reduce clutter quite a bit.
