Hey everyone, I recently made a GPU upgrade from a GTX 1050 Ti to an RTX 2070, hoping for smoother gaming performance in BeamNG.drive. However, I've encountered an unexpected issue: despite the FPS being higher with the RTX 2070, the game stutters noticeably. Here's what's happening: the gameplay appears smooth for a moment, but then it freezes briefly before returning to normal, repeating every couple of seconds. After some experimentation, I discovered that disabling dynamic reflections eliminates the stuttering. Even when I set dynamic reflections to minimum update rates and resolutions, the problem persists, which wasn't the case with my previous GPU. I also noticed that when I run BeamNG.drive on Vulkan, the problem does not happen. However, Vulkan can sometimes be unstable and crash. I'm torn because the game looks much better with dynamic reflections enabled, but the stuttering is too distracting. Has anyone else encountered this issue with dynamic reflections causing stuttering? And if so, are there any solutions or workarounds you've found? Thanks for your help! My PC's specs: Mb -ROG STRIX Z390-H GAMING Cpu -Intel Core i5-9400F Gpu -Rog Strix RTX 2070 Ram -16GB ram (Problem still persists with 32GB.) Psu -450w PSU (I'm aware that it's a low wattage but my PC appears to only use 400W at peak.) Storage -Game is installed on a Seagate barracuda 1TB HDD
Ok, your CPU isn't really strong enough and i would recommend getting a Ryzen 5 3600X or just a regular 3600 and you might want to upgrade that PSU and ram is 32GB of DDR4 3200MHz is pretty much the sweet spot for gaming. but apart from that did you try the Vulkan render in Beam because when open Beam you see the "unstable Vulkan render" and go there and check if there is any improvement in fps. and before upgrading check the amount of mods you have installed or update your graphics drivers or chipset drivers and if nothing then if your windows install is old and its bloated then reinstall IF its super bloated and is making your computer slower otherwise i recommend using the Chris Titus Debloat tool which debloats your machine and makes it faster buy removing all the processes. even after reinstalling the game or windows or even debloating doesn't work then simply disable dynamic reflections which you should try first before doing anything. i was actually worried if i would get low fps because im also thinking about getting a 2070 on ebay (im in a tight budget). Thanks for the question!
Hi, Thank you for responding, I have indeed noticed that the CPU is bottlenecking the RTX 2070. I did a test in Fortnite with and Geforce Monitor. And when the CPU was low I would get a steady 120FPS in Fortnite on Epic settings, but as soon as the CPU reaches 100% on random moments the game would stutter. So with a lot of games the i5-9400f will be bottlenecking the rtx. I want to upgrade my CPU, but i'm also on a budget and I think I will go with a used more powerful Intel Core i7. If I'd choose an AMD Ryzen 3600 I will also have to replace my motherboard. (but i want to save money.) And about my PSU; well I did a test with my dad's 700w PSU on my hardware, and the stuttering was still happening. So the 450w PSU I have will probably not be the problem, and I also tested it with a power meter on a benchmark, and the whole PC didn't use more than 360W with maxed out CPU and GPU. So my conclusion is you are right, the CPU is the problem. And about your intrest in buying a RTX 2070. Yes, I recommend the GPU very good. It's a great GPU even in 2024. It's still a 70 edition so it's quite powerful! (If you have sufficiƫnt CPU power.)
I have a Ryzen 5 5600G and i play the game with an IGPU so for me im completely GPU bottlenecked and yes i know you dont want a new mobo and everything so i recommend a 9700K but id only buy that CPU used so make sure you do that and since the 9700K draws more power id recommend a 550W or higher PSU. and honestly the for me is a beast but the IGPU is just too weak i mean its not weak i have seen worse but i have never used a pc with a real gpu so yea i have been suffering with low fps in beam.
