The reason it does that is the game is trying to load the crash and freezes, try to lower your setting a little bit.

I'm pretty sure it's loading the physics which is the CPU's job. The same thing happens to me when I have a big crash.

What sort of CPU do you have? My Q6600 slows down just before crashing but does not lag out.

My i7 870 lags out the first time I smash my car/into an object. What I do is brush by it then smash my car once, then do the crash. XD Slo-mo helps too.

Doesn't happen with my 870, it only happens on the i5-2410m in my laptop. :p On my laptop, I just deal with it, just like a 1/2 second of lag

It could just be "one of those things", because my i5 540m potato very rarely experiences pre-collision lag.

I also get this "Lag Before Impact" I've learned to deal with it and I really don't care about. Here my specs

    OS Name Microsoft Windows 8
    Version 6.2.9200 Build 9200
    Other OS Description Not Available
    OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
    System Manufacturer Hewlett-Packard
    System Model H8-1455
    System Type x64-based PC
    Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz, 3501 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
GPU ATI Radeon 7570 HD 2 GB
    BIOS Mode UEFI
    BaseBoard Manufacturer PEGATRON CORPORATION
    Platform Role Desktop
    Time Zone Hawaiian Standard Time
Installed Physical Memory (RAM) 12.0 GB
    Total Physical Memory 11.9 GB
    Available Physical Memory 9.45 GB
    Total Virtual Memory 12.3 GB
    Available Virtual Memory 9.51 GB
Hyper-V - VM Monitor Mode Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Second Level Address Translation Extensions Yes
Hyper-V - Virtualization Enabled in Firmware No
Hyper-V - Data Execution Protection Yes

So I don't think that the CPU is a problem correct me if i'm wrong but the I7-3770K can handle huge load Max clock with turbo boost 3.90 GHz base clock 3.50Ghz may its turbo boost kicking in for us intel users?

It happens to me but only the first time I crash, after the first lag I can crash again without any lag. It seems like the first time the game has to load some stuff and that's why it freezes for some time.

I thought this just happened to me and that it was because my pc is slow.

Load the crash? What sorcery is that?

I'm pretty sure it's due collision meshes.

    This always happens,
it is because the game has to load the physics happening in the crash

I bet its because it has to load the smashed materials (Glass, lights, etc) when you crash for the first time, but after that the materials are already loaded.

Apparently if you have a flash video opened, you dont get the full benefit of your gpu.
Best to have only Drive running without anything else on.
At least it works for me

GTX 970 and i7 2600k @4.0GHz lags awfully just before impact. What gives? No way is my CPU or GPU too weak

    E: sorry for the bump

*sigh* Since you bumped it, might as well help. Since it is loading textures onto ram it's pulling from the harddrive. Is your HDD slow?

Wasn't this issue fixed with the PRU release way back in June?

well, since it's an issue of drive speeds(in most cases anyway, sometimes it is just the cpu, for example my cpu lags out like crazy when crashing the b-25, which is acceptable because that vehicle is very detailed), really the only thing the devs could do is have the crash textures and all that load into the ram while your loading the map or vehicle (which in turn would cause loading of vehicle or map (depending on which way it's done) to take longer than usual (obviously not a problem on an SSD, but most people are probably still on HDD's))

at least that's my understanding of it

That could very much be it, I've been thinking about buying an SSD one of these days, just haven't gotten around it yet. So most likely a good SSD would fix it?
Thanks and sorry about bumping this ancient thread
