Hello everybody, I think that there needs to be a workshop integrated into this game (in Steam). This would make searching, installing and updating mods much easier, as well as rating and favourising those. This would really make a lot of things easier, especially for us 'consumers'. Are there plans on implementing this at some point?
Thanks for the link. I did a quick search before creating this topic, but they keywords would need to be different to catch that one. Anyways, it's good that they're working on a "depository", however I'm still convinced that Steam Workshop would be much better. And the link didn't even mention it one bit, though it should theoretically be the first choice.
IIRC the problem with the Steam Workshop is that many low quality Russian Mods would weed there way in and clog up the workshop with low quality rip offs. Maybe there's a way around that, but I'm not sure.
There's a rating system, so the good mods will come always up top. People in here can also do some weird stuff (busfag/carfag anyone?). That's not an issue.
From my experience, the good stuff comes always up top. Yes, anectdotal, but so is yours. If I load up CS or INS, there's mostly cool stuff that's being top rated. Maybe except skins, but that's the fault of the game and you can filter it anyways. They don't even have to 'shut' this place down, just allow Steam Workshop to be used.
The Russian mods are not inherently bad. It's the Russian mods that were stolen that are the problem. I don't know about you but if a model was originally from forza or something I don't really care (there are already mods that use models that come from GTA on the forms.) I do however care if a Modder who makes a mod and posts it on the forums and then some Russian mod website steals it and posts it without the permission of the real creator and does not put his name in the credits; that should not be done under any circumstances.
You have completely missed my point. My point was that it does not really matter if it's a low quality mod if it is not a stolen mod.
I will admit that they should credit Gabester for the jbeam. I just feel that the ones that were not stolen from other modders should not get as much hate as they do.
But they should because they give the game a bad rep. If you see this game advertising the best soft-body physics and then you see this: Or this what would you think?
I would think that it was a badly made mod. If that was the first car I ever used it would make a bad impression however. My point is just that I think that the mods get a worse rep then they deserve (admittedly they are not great mods).
Most people aren't going to realize thats a mod, or most people will think that its the games problem not the cars Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping
Excuse me? If someone's too dumb to know what a mod is he'll be unable to use the workshop too. The workshop also has a rating system as I already mentioned. Besides, first you play the regular game and then, once you're bored, you install mods. That does not apply at all.
I think the devs said somewhere, maybe in the proper repository thread that they wanted to keep the mods somewhat integrated with this site and have them only available to people who own the game and are on these forums. In my experience the steam workshop is very cluttered and not very well organized. For example using it on Trackmania it is very difficult to sort between cars and tracks because just using the word 'car' to search might miss some skins. I have a feeling whatever the devs are working on will end up being better than the workshop for this game. Just the totally different types of mods possible on this make it hard to work on workshop due to poor organization and sorting options.
Ill reword it for you. "Some people arent going to realize that it is a poorly made mod, so they will blame the game unjustly for the poor vehicle physics" Some people will see a picture or a video of a poorly made vehicle and think that all the cars in the game are like that and simply wont buy it. I dont hate the idea of a steam workshop, but i know that unless we're careful, a lot of bad mods would be voted up to the top of the pile. Why? Because there will be a bunch of people who would think "ooohhh, a shiny lamborghini, i like it *votes positively*" without realizing that it is just a mesh slapped on an unchanged Grand Marshall jbeam.
