My hot take, even if pointless regarding the last few posts, is that the reason the beamng community is degrading week by week is because of the constant drama and kids bumping, modders hating on other modders or the actual mods pissing people off. I've been here around 2019-2020 before i made my account in 2021. I must admit it was much more peaceful back then, and despite my obvious broken english (keep in mind this was before i learned english properly) people treated me with respect and kept it civil. These days the second you say something that isn't necessarely words that could be spoken by einstein himself, people tend to assume the person is either a child/troll/immature/dumb. Again, this doesnt mean ACTUAL kids should be let loose, but BeamNG has players from all over the world, where every induvidual knows a certian set of skills. Some, like me, sucked at english, but got gradually better over time. What pissed me mainly off last year was the constant purging of messages, often for no apparent reason, made by anonymous mods, and the uprising of bumpers and people that replied with nonsense or two sentences like talking about a car's engine somehow was equivalent to describing a knock-off ebay toy that made you chuckle; "omg so cool", "interesting", and so on. By this im talking about the bigger things, not like the generic responses that is alright on the forums to this date (afaik). I don't claim to be a veteran of any sorts, since i know there's thousands of people that joined and played way before me, but i too truly miss how civil the forums was back then (2018, '19, early 20'). The game itself and the content hasn't in any way, shape or form decreased, but after the start of 2020 it started being more toxic, as op implies. Some final words from me, is that everybody stands for their own opinion, words and actions, and should be held accountable as such. I myself have made a bunch of screw-ups and embarrased myself, but i've never blamed anyone else but me in the end. A powerful yet generic quote i think everybody should think about (no pun intended) is think before you speak See you on some other thread, forum-dwellers
Same thing that happened to all of them. I'm from the trucksim community and from what i noticed we all just got old...people left, new generation came in with different attitudes and values and everything changed drastically. Honestly i noticed things fell apart across the board roughly 2014-2018..not many people use forums anymore its all done on social media and i think that may be the main contributor.
I don't know, it's just... I can't tell you how many modders I know, for example, especially good modders, who have basically given up making mods for the game or got close to giving up solely due to all the backlash they'd receive on shit. I mean I was talking to one guy the other day, people wondered why he hasn't been as active as he used to, and he eventually said because he didn't like talking all that much on the forums anymore due to toxicity. Even he said that the forums aren't the same as they used to be. So I basically said this: And with the modding community more specifically, it seems like toxicity in general for a handful of communities has increased like ten-fold. As an example, it feels like a lot of modders are... what's the word... self-entitled? Like, back then, modders were all in this together, you know? Everyone helped each other out, collaborated, done all sorts of stuff together as a community. Now, it feels like in a lot of cases, modders are pretty selfish. For example, there's this guy Zolika1351. Some of you may have heard of him. Most prominently known in the GTA modding community, but he does lots of other stuff. So apparently this guy for years has been dealing with harassment from other modders, and he's basically given up on modding. All because he makes his own patches and mods, which actually work better than ThirteenAG's stuff in my case lol. Like the only thing he's done is make his own forks of stuff that's, mind you, already open-source. I'll let you read for yourself: Again, it's honestly crazy what people are willing to do to make someone else feel miserable. And now it feels like modders are constantly against each other all the time now. Even here on the BeamNG.forums, I see modders harassing other modders almost all the time, especially over the littler things. And all I can think about is "why?" I mean for example, seeing people who take someone's old meshslap or popular car mod that's outdated, and fixing it themselves, which is common on here. Multiple people will get permission from the original author to fix it, but I'll see each person attacking the other constantly. Calling each other names and slurs, harassment, etc. Basically feeling self-entitled that only they can work on it, and nobody else. Even though that the mod isn't owned by any of you, but rather someone else, whom you all got permission from. You're all both doing the same stuff, can you really just not collaborate together on it?
I totally understand what youre saying man. I've pretty much stopped modding period..its the people that have ruined it for me even though i know it shouldnt be like that. Credits are super important, we put lots of time into these games and to not be credited really sucks, thats a main reason i just stopped doing alot of stuff
In the year I've been here, I've just noticed a lot more drama even from when I joined. People getting more entitled, people sharing unfinished mods for ungodly prices (ahem *transformer trailer* ahem), the amount of meshlaps, the debate between official repository (idk how to spell it) mods or modland shit. I think is a lot of those factors and the fact that younger kids are creeping their ways into the forums. Hard to believe I've been here for over a year...
You should see the Beamng.drive subreddit, Loads of garbage content, people saying ''How do I fix this'' and then proceed to post an image of taken from their phone of a meshslap from modland with no texture. Toxic Kids making their way into the forums is definetly starting to show the effects of more useless drama (Not all children are toxic, but a lot of them are). Children were going to make their way into the community of a realistic car physics game. Most communities have been damaged by trash content, So will Beamng's. It is not the people who ruin community, It's the things they create.
I'll be honest, I think this is all a bit of an overreaction. It is really easy to ignore the rubbish posts and just read the good ones by sensible people. The others (children, etc.) are mostly also just having fun in their own way, and I don't mind that. Abuse is not acceptable, but there are ways to report that, so it isn't a huge issue. I don't know, I just think these things get a little exaggerated sometimes. I have no issues with anyone. I just like people to enjoy BeamNG.
Honestly as a new guy on the forums, I feel about 1/3 of the drama is saying there is too much drama.
It'a been a while since I last posted. But yeah, I have been lurking here and I can agree. --- Post updated --- I mean, back then in 2021 when I first appeared, everything was just peaceful. Sure, the Picnic mod did end up being a bit controversial, but we moved on from it, right? Right.
Well not everyone, a lot of people still disrespect Lucas and him specifically (for some reason) for making paid mods (even if they’re better than dev quality + half of his mods are free)
yeah I've been lurking since 2019 on and off and I really don't really feel the same as this guy. I mean on certain threads there is a lot of children (notably irl car threads, especially the rs6 one) but in terms of dramas, they are usually under control and are only small cuffufles most of the time anyway. Yeah, I do think things have changed, but it was bound to happen as the game became more popular. Overall though, I think he is overreacting as frankly most of the internet has gotten more toxic as the years have gone by anyway. I feel similarly to simsimw in the way that it is just nostalgia from times when the forums where smaller and this sort of toxicity was uncommon and the community was more united by their love for the game. But I think that when paying for mods came around though, and especially when the meshslap garbage came around, everything started falling apart. people became more toxic, the community became divided by the idea of them.
I check the forums maybe once a week now and I do feel it isn't as good as it used to be but lots of the people that posted back then just aren't around anymore. It what happens to any community however so not exactly a surprise. And I do agree with above. When paid mods came to be this forum got significantly worse.
