Hey all! I've been following BeamNG for a while now and I thought it was a good time to join the forums to say hi! I found BeamNG after finding a video of it on youtube, and to my surprise it used Torque3D, one of my beloved childhood game engines! I used to do a lot of modding/modeling/etc for Blockland and Garry's Mod (I guess I'm an official community dev... was contacted by them about integrating PHX model pack), but recently I moved towards full-stack web development. Anyways, I might be looking to touch roots with my old modeling and mapping days as I used to do lots of environment and vehicle modeling. Looking forward to being here! For the devs: I saw this post: We-are-hiring And was wondering if you guys are still hiring more web developers! I sent an email a while ago, and I'm not sure if it got to you guys (outlook.com can be strangely finicky and I haven't been able to find a reponse email). Maybe you guys will see this, but either way I thought it might be worth a try than clutter your emails again. If you guys are, my LinkedIn is here if that helps: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jimjam I'm located in the SF Bay Area out of a Hacker/Maker-space if that matters. Also own a G27 and Oculus Rift (sadly only DK1 as of yet, but using the DK2 at the Natural Selection offices in SF has me convinced lol). Been having loads of fun with my G27, but I haven't gotten my oculus rift working with it just yet. I do a lot of mobile development too, so if for some odd reason that's needed I can help. Also have a pretty strong interest in embedded devices recently (arduino and rPi). I guess PM me if you guys have a need! I'm getting my email sorted out ASAP.
Welcome to the Forums DasNight! Your little biography was an interesting read! Definitely the developers could be interested in you. They might give you a shout. They are busy a lot but if your credentials are solid you could be some major help the small team could use! Again welcome to the forums! We are all glad to have new members! /proper english Welcome broski, sounds like you can do some kickass stuff!
Welcome to the forums Also Gmod? Im pretty sure it uses the source engine, not torque3D But yeah, welcome Sent from the 3rd galaxy via the talks of tapping
Thanks guys, nice to see such a welcoming community! I'm experienced in both T3D and Source engines. I used to hang on the GarageGames forums and had a license for back when it was paid. Tried unity, but the community wasn't nearly a friendly. GG went through tough times, so I transitioned into modding for Source and Garry's Mod/HL2. Much more a web guy now, but T3D will always be that thing I tinkered with while everyone was out side playing kickball Hopefully some of that work still translates after all these years. Was so hard to explain 3D modeling and programming to my friends back then...
This was so refreshing to read. I feel that pain today....thank god for mothers. Btw people, if you are having issues finding recipients for your many hours of Torque artistry I recommend thinking about your girl or mother....they really dig HD flowery meadow maps!!! I'm here to tell you man, they don't get a 5 hour set up screen of exquisitely mangled cars.
Mine just says why go through all that trouble when we have a park in town? Also, sadly my mapping skills are bust for the most part. I think a lot of the work flow is different today.
Workflow is definitely the name of the game and something I'm struggling with mightily. T3D is fun and intuitive despite it's glaring and frustrating flaws. If you're not into map making perhaps 3DSmax or Blender and vehicle construction is your deal. Good beamers are always in demand.
you should be able to find out if the devs are stil hiring web devs by sending an email to jobs@beamng.com
It's mostly that the work flow for everything T3D/3d art has changed since 2005 Elementary school was a long, long time ago... I remember Milkshape being best to create the lego parts for Blockland, which was this game: http://www.blockland.us/ back when it was this: http://images.businessweek.com/ss/05/10/garage_games/image/blockland.jpg. I'm pretty familiar with Blender, so I'll probably take a shot at that sometime. Also got my email fixed, probably send them an email today. EDIT: Oh wow, looks like Blockland got a wikipedia page finally: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blockland
