EDIT 4/29/2025: HMMWV got nuked, I'm taking this down preemptively to avoid it getting nuked too. Honestly it was only a matter of time until this happened lol... HMMWV might be back, but it'll be with hand-made models if it ever comes back. To replace this mod I'll have to revive my compact pickup mod that I never finished.... oh well, we had a good run. Hey boyz, and welcome to my first full-vehicle mod; The Datsun 620 from ArmA Gold, and ArmA II. The ArmA series was made by Bohemia Interactive Studios (BIS), and all the games in the series are dear favorites of mine. The Datsun is a favorite vehicle of mine for numerous reasons, but mainly I just think it looks cool AND BeamNG is sorely-lacking in the compact-pickup class. (I have a real, actual, lore-friendly compact-pickup mod in the works that I'm making from actual scratch, but that'll be a minute, so you get this junk in the meantime lol) The mod is still quite unfinished, but progress has slowed significantly since I started my new job in March, and I figured I'd throw it out there for you guys to play with and complain about sometime this century. The mod is what I'm calling a "High-class" Meshslap, and I've been working at it off-and-on since around Christmas. The mechanical side of the Jbeam is the vanilla Miramar engine, transmission, and a heavily-modified front suspension. Rear axle is a slightly-modified version of my leafsprung Hopper axle. There is an "aftermarket" 4WD front axle which is a slightly-modified leafsprung Hopper front axle. The frame is a modifed Hopper frame, and the body is all modifed Miramar and D-Series Jbeams. I don't have loads of time to put a super-fancy post together, so here are some lazy screenshots: The mod is more-or-less compatible with @Agent_Y 's universal dummy mod: And here is the Collision Triangle Debug screen just for your consideration: A moderate crash: BUGS: This thing is positively riddled with bugs of varying severity: The BIS models have no backfaces in most cases, I've been slowly adding them. The front headlight Jbeams are only 2-dimensional at the present moment, (they're triangles, I'm going to change them to pyramids) AND they are very difficult to break. The gas tank is really weak and stretchy, in theory it's an easy fix, but it's beaten me several times... The front leaf springs have some kind of rail-breaker error causing them to break if they bottom out too hard, which isn't a bad thing, but it happens too easily. The front axles on the SFA also break for no reason sometimes. I'm pretty sure it's because the axle Jbeam is too wide and the wheel track is too narrow. As you can see in the crash screenshot, I haven't set up the broken materials yet (Or any materials really... just a placeholder skin) The frame and several body parts are a bit too stiff and strong to be realistic. She's a tad heavy, around 3,000lbs when the real truck is 2,200-2,400lbs. (I'm working on this ATM) I haven't added the gauge-faces or the gauge needles. There are no taillight or signal flares. The model is very blocky with BAD polyflow, I can do some stuff to fix it, but I haven't yet... lol IFS geometry is kinda bad as I kinda just mushed the Miramar one to fit the models. The bed and body mounts are indestructible and kinda rubbery. The rear axle has wicked-bad wrap, and it's also kinda rubbery. Frame is too stiff, and too easily bent (Oxymoron, I know... Basically, beamspring is too high, beamdeform is too low) Some parts of the model are missing textures and are just gray. Steering wheel model has some flipped faces which manifest as holes in-game. Lots more I can't think of right now lol. EDITED LOL: Oooops, there are no included configs.... I'll fix that this week, but I'm outta time right now lol rippp. EDITED AGAIN DOUBLE LOL: Okay it now includes configs. I'll try to get some shtuff done on it soonish. Anyways guys, have fun with this thing, throw suggestions my way if you want, but don't expect anything to be fixed quickly. CREDITS: Jbeams: BeamNG, edited by me. Models: Pickup body: Bohemia Interactive Studios, edited by me, Mechanical: BeamNG, edited by me. Textures: Pickup body: Bohemia Interactive Studios, unedited (yet... I'll have to to map everything) Mechanical: BeamNG, basically unedited. The orignal Datsun model is available for free from Bohemia Interactive Studios here (Which is where I got it lol): https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/Arma_2_Sample_Models If you have any bugs I didn't list, you can PM me or post them in reply to this thread. Don't expect a speedy reply though, lol
Took it out to the farm, it is and does exactly as what you described ,enough said a little beater truck to rip in and see how fast it self destructs or doesn't fun as is.
What's good guys? I'm back at modding (sort of) and I just hopped on here to show you a cool feature I discovered in Blender which allows you to visually see which backfaces are facing the wrong way! lol It's called Mesh Display or something like that, and I'll highlight the important controls in the attached screenshots. Anyway, I mentioned in my main post that the steering wheel has some reversed faces which show up as holes in the wheel. NOW I can fix those! Here's how: Here is the face visualizer thingy (Mesh Display). Red faces are backfaces, and should not be visible from the outside of the model. Here is the process for repairing this issue, you can also select individual faces and flip their "Normals." Sorry if it's kinda hard to see it lol... Finally, here's how to get to this view in the first place: I hope this is helpful to someone out there... lol As I said, I'm kinda back into modding. Still don't expect anything fixed quickly, but I am back to working on it.
