The idea is that the BeamNG developers could take a cut of all paid mod sales, directly funding the games development.
I will stand corrected, however I do feel like some of the arguments that content creators are making are extra biased due to the income being generated, and this issue really doesnt cover the wider part of the modding community. --EDIT-- While I definitely don't think that this is what it is, paid modding being integrated officially would boost you guys so much, as you guys have already conceptualized it in practice. It just seems super selfish and greedy.
I'd say that a better solution would be requiring a Free "Core" mod that acts like a demo, with everything required to make the mod work and one or two example of each part (One front Bumper, One engine, One Transmission, and so on), so other modders would know how the parts are laid out, what slot Types the Author uses for each part, and things like that. Also, that demo/core version would help to ensure buyers have a taste of how the mod is before buying and finding if that mod actually is what they are looking for. For example, I HATE to drive cars in game that are too fiddly or just downright impossible to make handle well. Would be nice to have the oportunity to test the car before and see if the stock handling is good enough for me, and if it is improvable. Also I use BeamNG as a Teaching Platform for vehicle dynamics, so having a mod that is very visual in that regard, and that allows great tuning ability is something that I appreciate A LOT (that's why the Gavril Vertex is one of my favorite mods by the shear amount of tuneability that it has).
The first post lists a bunch of reasons why paid mods are a great thing for the community, modders, and developers. I've taken the time to make it as detailed as possible while staying neutral.
Those actually exist, in the form of Demo mods, like for the picnic and the signia, among other mods.
100%, I agree there are tons of positives, but there is nothing listing the negatives from you, which as far as im concerned isnt neutrality at all. To I think further bolster everyone's decision, I think you should maybe take into consideration some of the negatives and edit the first post to include such cons to the proposal.
Alright, then let's discuss the probably crappy 737 that's being sold for over 20 dollars, and the random landmarks being sold for $5-15
Not to mention that two of the biggest mods for Assetto Corsa, CSP and SOL, both have their development supported by patreon subscribers, where beta and exclusive releases are provided as a part of the service. Without their respective patreon supporters, neither mod would still exist in development.
I don't see any negatives in turning my hobby into a profession. The entire paid mods scheme seems like a win-win-win situation for me. If you don't like paid mods you can always ignore them, it's not like modders owe anything to anyone and legally have to make free mods.
Probably best to stop replying to him, all he seems to be doing is trying to get a reaction and stir up drama to get the thread locked
As I said, I have no problem paying for them. Im just voicing my opinion on how its a super bad idea to take this mainstream.
