Love it! Tough luck for the race, but at least the car is still intact and running after being in top 5 your entire time in. Sounds like a good night! You didn't finish but you left in one piece. Sometimes that's the best outcome. I am curious... Do those angle irons really hold up well to impact? Not sure how comfortable I'd be sitting behind those. Is it some rule of the class you are running or something you added out of your own concern for safety? Are they secured only by the fasteners, I'm guessing for easy removal? I'd make plates to spread weight across the windshield edge, but that's just me! Do you have any race videos? Would love to see that!
Yeah, the car runs fine. I'm very impressed with how well these old pushrod GM V6 engines hold up. I'm a diehard Ford guy but any of these old GM lumps of iron are just great motors. Yes, they'll hold up fairly well to most impacts. It's mainly there to stop larger objects. It's very comfortable in terms of safety and is actually above what the class dictates. I will be adding some expanded metal for next year. Yeah, I had some GoPros going, but I don't know how good the video is yet. I haven't had the time to go through the footage yet. If you have a local track that does something like this, I highly recommend it! Including the car and all fees and everything I'm like $800 into this adventure.
I do have a nearby track, but no car appropriate enough to take out there to destroy. All the cars I do have I care about a bit too much for that. The car community is really big in my area so you don't find many running driving cars that cheap anymore. However we do have a lightly wrecked Miata we have sat on for a while that we are prepping for local rallycross events. Really looking forward to that, hoping for my first time out to be next year. Karting scratches the itch in the meantime.

I have a couple not very good pics, yeah. I'm still sifting through all of the video: You can see where it was hit on the passenger door. The entire issue I had was the battery terminals stripping out (fuck side post), and then the plugs getting fouled by oil.

So, I've finally been making the transition from keyboard to Xbox controller after more than a decade of using keyboard almost exclusively for every racing game I played. And holy fucking shit, does controller feel amazing. No more do I have to deal with the constant SLAM-BAM-WHAM of keyboard - I can trail brake and gradually steer and roll onto the throttle and do all kinds of shit I could only dream of doing before. (Yes, I did do a lot of tapping on keyboard for fine control, but it's not the same as being able to go from, say, 35% throttle to 40% throttle without lifting.) I've also been really surprised at how fast I've been able to improve. I've only been maining controller for less than a day, and I'm already good enough at it to complete scenarios like Piccolina Showcase, East Coast Chase #1, Broken Truck and all the ETK Driving Experience training missions. And I did all those missions without any assists (outside of preheated engines and race brakes). Granted, I'm probably not as good at the fine details on controller as I am on keyboard, and I'm definitely nowhere near as fast or consistent as I could be. But I'm absolutely happy to have gone from barely being able to lap a base Piccolina around Hirochi Raceway Medium without spinning out to casually driving around quite well in faster and better cars in less than 24 hours. That's HUGE in my books. I thought it'd take me ages to get to this level of skill with a controller. Now that I know how amazing analog input is for racing, I've no idea why I didn't seriously try switching before. The possibilities I now have to go faster are immense - and even if I didn't care about going faster, just no longer having to depend so much on assists to make it around a track feels so nice. It's also great for driving in traffic - instead of having to depend upon the cruise control app to maintain a speed, I can just set a throttle level that I want for that speed. Steering is a lot quieter too, and interior view's a lot more fun now that I can gradually move the 'head' with the left stick. And braking without locking up all the damn time - so nice. Anyway, that's just what I've been up to today.

Thank you! My controller's a bit on the cheap side (got it for $40), so it has this odd "dead zone" where it doesn't want to turn at very low angles. That means I can't be as perfectly smooth with the steering as I want to be. Which is especially irritating for high-speed turns or drifting, where I need every last bit of adjustability to make sure I don't go plowing into the barrier or spinning out of control. I've been having a crack at the WIP career mode with the controller over the past week, and I've managed to get this far: Which is pretty good going, IMO. The only mission I wasn't able to complete on controller was A Flock of Pigeons, although that could just be me not knowing how to cannon with the controller than anything else. I really like the slower-paced missions where I have to rely more on not being a complete nincompoop than having to be an amazing driver. While it's cool that I can race AI and even choose my own car to race them with...they all crash at the first big braking zone in the street races. Which is just not fun, IMO. Thankfully, those AI races give lots of race XP, and I got to build a cool Barstow for the classic muscle car race. I prefer the time trials for serious fun, especially Solar Circuit - that was a lot of fun to get right, since I had to basically not let the Covet's tires skid at all. Zinging around the bends, trying to keep that little hatch right at the limit of its grip...oh, it was so nice when I finally got three stars on there. Currently, I own four vehicles in Career Mode: a stock Wendover 3300 pre-facelift (which I use as a "daily driver"), a stock starter Covet, a stock Wigeon LX Sprint, and the modded Barstow that I mentioned earlier. That's basically a Lancehead with a TrackSport engine, and it's real nice to drive around. Should note that the AI's a lot better at the race track than it is on the streets. I dunno why this is the case, but the AI Sunbursts were giving me some decent trouble in my race Wendover in West Coast Circuit #1. I could probably try doing some hotlapping around Hirochi Raceway, if I want to see how much faster I am on controller compared to keyboard. I've already taken all the stock configurations for a spin on keyboard around the Medium layout. Anyway, just another long post about my journeys through the wonders of analog input.

So, Toyota has made a new Prius. They have also made a 220HP fast one that's ACTUALLY kinda fast. Am I still a die hard car guy if I kinda want one? Like, I know it's a Prius and I know the new one looks like a computer mouse, but it's fast.
Is it electric? If it's a hybrid, you're good. If it's ICE, even better. If it's electric, then you should take a second to ponder what you've said and retract your statement as soon as possible.
