Yes, its indeed a very interesting concept and leaves many choices open on what road this thing rides. Maybe a bit of everything?
Kept the engines but throw in a modern 4.0 Liter Biturbo to get a little closer to the Mercedes without losing the Z4 touch.
The opportunities are very broadly spreaded!

are other brands better? less horsepower means more reliable as well anyway

To cut off this argument bluntly, this is BeamNG. Nobody cares what you think about reliability.

Tbh, it's very simple. The K-Series can have both Coupe and Roadster bodies and since the Coupe already offers the safety of the integrated roof, the Roadster can have the classic electric soft top along with the safety of the electric/pyrotechnic rollover hoop, like in the 1989 R129 SL. In that way, the rear parcel shelf, with the two large bends behind the seats, can still be kept adjacent to the soft top storage space without hurting the trunk.
As for the engines, a 4.0 Twin-Turbo V8 would complement the car very nicely in the high end of its price range and it would also create some more versions.

Updated the update time span spreadsheet to help you guys hold your hype for later (the estimated date may? be overestimated as the devs released 0.26 really fast but we'll see)

The devs said that they want to return to the 3-month program (although the 4-month one was just fine), so your January 17th estimation is certainly too late. Plus, as is tradition, they gotta have something to show us for the upcoming Christmas holiday!

Maybe they will do it like last year, where the winter update is split into 2 parts, so we still get something before the year ends.

It will probably turn out like this. i can´t imagine another really big thing for the rest of the year..
My guess is they will give us a little christmas update where they cram in the ETK stuff (Who knows what else beside the teased Bodykit) and maybe some other minor things they worked on to this day but the next T H I C C update will be shipped next year of course.
If they haven´t drastically expanded on personnel just recently i just can´t imagine another big dimension of update for the rest of the year.

    Possible content for modern ETKs:
    • more powerful stock turbo I6
    • K-series GT3/GTD, GT4, and/or GT2/GTLM/GTE (for the bodykit)
    • V8s
    • all-terrain version
    • electric version
    • I3s
    • sedan and possibly coupe 800
    • all sorts of customization and tuning options
    • convertible K-series (assuming K stands for Kabriolett)
    • ddsport
    • EUDM versions
    • 800 DTM
    • facelifts
All of the above is very plausible, but what outside-the-box could they do? Platform mates, like a larger 5-series sized car or a smaller 1-series sized car seem redundant, as those segments are pretty much filled. A crossover could work, but that too seems a bit close to the Tograc. Offroad configs seem to be very popular with the devs, so a van or G-wagon would reuse the engines and transmissions while being fairly unique. A Japanese K-series would be hilarious and cruel, but redundant for obvious reasons. As for parts, there are lots of possibilities for an above-ttsport model. Honestly, the current 800 ttsport should really just be a normal config, as it isn't even in M340i or S4 territory. Mercedes currently uses a 4.0L turbo V8 in their top C-class, but in the time of the in-game 800 the C63 had an enormous 6.3L n/a V8. The current IS500 has a 5.0L n/a V8. The old RS4 had a screaming 450hp 4.2L n/a V8. The ATS-V, Q60 Red Sport, CT4-BW, and current RS4 all have twin-turbo V6s, not very likely for the I6 800-series. The ATS-V was actually supposed to have a all-murican 7.0L pushrod V8, but GM thought that wasn't euro enough, so the guys pushing that got fired. The M3 that the 800 is based on has a twin-turbo I6, as does the current one.

A DTM I series would be awesome, but I think we have that

I was talking about the 800 series. We have multiple WRC cars from the same time period, why can't we have two DTM cars from completely different time periods?

If they make a sedan 800, they could make a DTM version... although now that i think about it, it looks a bit too far from the standard car, so I'm not sure it's likely to happen

Whats so unlikely? There isn't a single car in the 800's segment that is wagon only, and the 3/4-series, A4, and C-class all race in touring car series.

k-series gt3/gte would make more sense since we got that as a mod for the scintilla and its quite popular so why wouldnt they jump on the bandwagon, also a why would right hand drive etk be obsolete ?

RHD is only in UK (and former UK territories, excluding NA) and Japan.

I can't really see ETK have a 3 cylinder engine, just because BMW has like 2 or 3.

I can totally see the 800 having a 3-cylinder because let's not forget that the absolute base engines of the D-Segment Luxury Sedans (or Compact Luxury Sedans) have around 1.4 - 1.5 liters of displacement because not everyone wants to/can buy the 2-liter versions due to taxing. The Audi A4 has a 1.4l, the Mercedes-Benz C180/200 have a 1.5l Mild-Hybrid I4 unit.
Plus, as I've already mentioned a gazillion times before, if the ETK 3-cylinder is a 1.5l unit (along with the Twin-Turbo V8 being a 4-liter), then the modern German "Lego" way of engine design and construction (in which each cylinder displaces half a liter) will be fully represented in the BeamNG lore.

Modern DTM cars barely share anything with their road-going counterparts.
It's not a car with better suspension, stripped interior, an upgraded engine, and a rollcage like some other touring championships (If I'm not mistaken a GT3 car is pretty much just that, and RWD).
Rather, it's a carbon-fiber chassis with a custom engine, suspension and drivetrain, with some exterior panels that look like the road car. kind of like NASCAR in this aspect, less like GT classes.
I think that a GT-spec car for the K-series is more likely if anything.
