Can I squeeze any more performance out of my q6600 intel core 2 quad btw. It gets 21fps on d15 27fps on covet and moon hawk 15 fps not forgetting the gavril t 75 at 9fpsand finally pigeon at 55fps?? Pigeon is absurdly fast and Is limited to my gpu but otherwise the rest are bottlenecked by cpu I think, should I do anything to this system or save up for a new system like SixSixSevenSeven mentioned the devils canyon pentuim I don't think I will need a more powerful gpu than my gt610. My computer has served so incredibly well for being about £80 in total and rescuing an old P4 box got me to this point, I think an upgrade is due but it can't be stupidly expensive like £500 but just enough to break 21fps

That GPU is ****. The CPU was nice, but now it's old and slow. You need to upgrade everything.

    You need a new everything.
For £500 you can get a very decent PC, with an AMD 8320, Nvidia 750 Ti etc.

I have the exact same CPU and a worse video card on my old PC (Specs Below) and yeah, that sounds like the same performance. You really can't get anymore out of the chip, so get a new PC.

you might as well not be playing games unless they're at 40+ fps. save up your money for a decent upgrade. don't settle on a sub par experience. i don't know how euro prices are right now, but you should have enough for decent hardware.

£ is great British pound sterling, not euro. € is the euro symbol. Prices fluctuate across Europe so you can't even give a set eurozone cost on anything.

I've been wondering why games these days don't move on much from 2007 hardware. Everyone's PC's seem to be stuck in 2007. You're not propping up better hardware.

To be fair, since 2008 the global everything happened and no-one can afford to upgrade. but still, I think these days you can do better than that for pretty cheap. If you guys can afford iphones then a competent CPU isn't going to dissolve your pockets.

Maybe it's the fact that newer hardware is not improving that much compared to older gens. In 2008 I had a crappy Q6600 at 2.4Ghz. In 2011 I upgraded to the 2500k I have today. If I upgrade today I'd be wasting my money. I could get a new CPU that would be pretty much the same as mine, and considering I'm not being bottlenecked, changing my CPU wouldn't affect my gaming.

I've been having this feeling for the past 2 years that CPUs and GPUs are stuck in time, close to 0 improvements.

I went from HD 5870 to R9280x. There is a marked difference between them but I get what you're on about. I'm only just now considering a CPU upgrade because the new intel 4930k's are dwarfing my current hardware and a friend can get me one for about a third of the price in november so I could take him up on that. Thing is if I "upgraded" for the same CPU budget as when I got my phenom at market prices there would be no worthwhile difference.

Sounds like you are gonna need a new machine. Honestly I just purchased a rig from a guy on craigslist for $400 USD and its pretty amazing. If you are looking to build your own new rig, that gt610 might work for a while but should be upgraded soon. Get at least an i3 or i5 or AMD equivalent and at least 16gb RAM, to try and future proof it. Just my suggestions. The GT610 isn't really made for heavy gaming, if my memory serves me correctly that is mainly just a media card, but at low gfx it should work alright. Make sure to turn all the gfx settings on BeamNG.Drive low and see if that helps.

16gb of RAM is unnecessary. It's a massive waste of money. 8gb is all he would need.

Yeah, I'm aware. Thanks to bitcoin the regular 7970 was made overpriced as shit. It was a middle way between the 7870 and the 7970 so I settled on it.

16gb ram WOW that sounds super overkill should I get like haswell or the new intel cpus supporting DDR4. and yeah 2gb ram isn't that much as my Dell can take 8gb ram but that is just silly to upgrade a pc like that all my settings are on lowest and im cpu bottlenecked for sure because if I go and turn everything to lowest and 640x480 then I get the same FPS

Just a quick update I BROKE the 30 FPS barrier at 37 fps on gridmap with clean windows install and beamng experimental all turned down at 1280x1024 with process priority at high and its smooth!! :) mind you my CPU is pretty old but yeah I was so happy!! have they done performance improvements lately or something! (btw forgot to mention I got an SSD)

If they've done any performance improvements lately, they have been more minor ones. I don't really see why you got an SSD but kept your GT 610 though.
