Hello all, i have released a few mods and have had some work stolen and I would like to protect my .dae files so if you import it into blender it’s invisible. I know it can be done I just can’t find any information about it. Any information would be appreciated. Here’s a pic of my GQ Patrol mod for your troubles
I don't think it's possible, they wouldn't work in game. This is a risk of releasing public mods. They are not exactly "stealing" the model if it's free for everyone.
It is 100% possible as I have seen it done and I know of people that do it, I just don’t know how and can’t find any information on it. And I’m not talking about the model I’m talking about all my bar work I have modeled myself that has been taken and used.
If you mean that there are models that don't import in Blender, that's just a bug with newer Blender versions, they open just fine in old versions and in other programs than Blender. What you could do instead is making a password protected zip file. I've seen some old mods that have them and they work normally, except can't be unpacked and stuff. But no idea if the way WinRar works hasn't changed and you still can do it, because I only saw it on some really old mods.
I do understand that’s how blender works. But I do know of people using a method like what I stated to protect their work. Thanks for the info I’ll try password protecting it but I don’t think that works, I’ll have a look tonight and let you know how I go.
Some mods in Assetto Corsa encrypt the model for the car to stop it being used/abused by amatuer modders and spawning 10's more badly made mods, this would be difficult for beamng as you'd need a decrypt key which sounds fine but the problem is making sure you can use it game but not in the files alone.
That does not work anymore as far as I know. You can somewhat damage your .dae files. But then its still possible to export the models through the in game exporter, Though I heard that has been broken for a while. Otherwise someone could just rip the model with a 3rd party program. As for password protecting a zip goes. That unfortunately does not work since it makes the files unreadable unless the file is unlocked with the password.
