    More work on understeer reduction assistants.

    This assistant marks the 5th or 6th prototype - I lost count - attempted so far in the past few years. The last prototype was really close to be shipped in v0.25, but as usual we found issues that made it unsuitable for a wide release to all of you. This current prototype uses yet another (entirely new) approach which I'm hoping will finally be shippable.

    To help diagnose its behaviour and issues, I wrote a simplistic graphing UI app:

    And then the mandatory and always very time consuming checks to see how good and how bad it is. These are just the minimum checks; tons more will be needed such as "will the assistant break the game if someone understeers downstairs", "what if i jump like this", "but my mod car has 4 front wheels that can steer", "will the rear-wheel steered pessima misbehave"... all those situations you wouldn't often see in sims :D

    Looking at history, chances are this assistant will also not see the light of day, but the graphs are interesting enough to be posted nonetheless.

    Screenshot taken from one of our internal dev channels - pixelated for anonymity and because WIP secrets.

    You're looking at a bot who posts once for each change that is uploaded to the "main" game repository.
    (there are many other repositories that get daily changes, some have tens of thousands of changes but, uh, let's ignore that shall we)

    In other words... we uploaded the 100.000th change this afternoon!! It was a really close battle, keeping all of us devs devving on the edge of our seat.

    The winner ended up being G*, very closely followed by J* who celebrated too soon lifting throttle before crossing the finish line, and a few seconds later R* arrived to secure 3rd position. Congratulations to them, enjoy all those amazing imaginary internet points and emoji reactions!

    Pretty spectacular! I joined the team when we at less than 40,000 commits, it's incredible that there have been over 60,000 changes to the game in just over 3 years! (and each "change" can represent 10s or 100s of changes within them!)

    You can see me toggling through some ignition states and also starting the engine. (I artificially increased the time the engine needs to start up for demo-purposes)
    The "No Material" on the screens is the accessory mode atm, not quite sure what exactly we will end up doing there.

    Introducing... the FPS uglifier! (only available in internal builds)

    It forces BeamNG.drive to suffer wildly inconsistent framerates, forcing an entire category of bugs to become more noticeable.

    Weekend time is ABS time :cool:
    Finally finding some space to work on the loooong planned ABS overhaul.

    Here you can see two technically identical Scintillas, only the ABS is different. The blue one uses new code that draws from a lot of what I learned in the recent years while working on various control systems, while the red one is just what is currently in game.
    Even though the new stuff isn't even calibrated properly yet, you can see that it already outperforms the old code quite significantly :)

    (Yes, I'm also looking into that one ABS issue where it refuses to brake, but I've always had very bad luck of actually getting that to happen personally, so it's difficult to test)

    Just like in real life, our tires provide optimum grip at non-zero slip ratios, for me this means, that I need to run some tests to see what ultimately works best for a given car and setup.
    Here you can see an ABS test where the only difference between the 5 cars is the slip ratio target (ranging from 0.08 to 0.12), ie the value the ABS tries to operate the wheels at.
    As you can see, the differences here are not huge, but still worth investigating :)
