Hey old timer. The game itself continues to improve, but the community has unfortunately been going downhill for years now.

What's the issue with quality paid mods? The way I see it is those modders want to get rewarded for all the effort and time they pour into making a mod and it's likely that if paid mods become a thing, there will be an initial bump of high quality mods coming from well known modders. Isn't that a good thing for community interest?

That said, I'm not officially an old timer of these forums so there goes my credibility, but a long time player since Rigs of Rods was the latest soft body game.

Man alive, you're one of the originals.

I've never been particularly active in the community, so I can't say with certainty how to compare then with now, but I can give you a few of the highlights. Mythbuster left, probably around 2015 or so. He had finished a few major mods by then, but was so fed up with reuploaders that he quit, full-stop (even leaving one of his projects in a half-finished state). There was some business with a notable modder and community member who, sadly, took his life roughly around 2016-ish. In 2018 there was a collaboration with Automation, so there may be a few fans of that game here now, and vice-versa. Several of the great modders have become devs over the years (Nadeox, B25Mitch, even DrowsySam for a while), and one of them—Gamergull—created a traffic mod so good, it got integrated into the game outright. And yes, currently we have a few paid mods lurking about. They're generally quite inexpensive, high-quality, and are deep in the minority, though I can see potential issues with the precedent this development may set going forward.

Eh, I'd argue the community has been at the same-ish level of maturity for a few years now, at least since I started getting involved in 2019.

There are more and more people getting into modding now, which is pretty great.

Alrighty, lemme give you a rundown.

Ever since paid mods were created, things went a bit downhill. Put it this way
We have sketchy russian websites stealing actually very good mods and infecting them with things that'll make your pc go to brazil for an all included 5 month vacation with unlimited alcoholic beverages.
Im an old timer, and when my acc got hacked in early 2020, I built up the guts to return and see if the community got any better. It didn't to say the least. We have 8 year olds asking why they are seeing random popups on their screen. Not that long ago I told a guy that he had a pirated copy of BeamNG. He had horrible grammar. I originally joined in 2016 on a deleted acc. I remember when all the good cars came out. I played on a Intel i5 with integrated graphics then turned that into a VM computer strictly. It was a laptop with a broken built-in keyboard that almost made it look like I hosted a gosh darn bonfire in the middle of my desk. But, the game is still good. I downgraded to an Intel Pentium PC with a GTX 1060, and without the decent GPU for the time, my house would have gotten burnt to ashes. Now I play on an i7 11th gen, with a RTX 2060, and 16GB of ram. The game runs smoothly and I love the community. Most of them. *cough cough iamthelaw105 cough cough* Sorry, something's tickling my throat. There are 8 year olds saying they were born June 9th, 1969 just to be funny. Bunch of people doing sus jokes, being not funny, and raging because their parents got them a Microsoft surface pro that can't even touch roblox without blowing up into smithereens lmao. You have funny people who brighten your day tho like me :D
Have a nice day, and welcome back after quite a few years.

I stayed in silence for 3+ years, watching the forums and waiting to buy the game. last year I started to work, i got the game by myself and i registered this account on the forum.
People are crazy here! The pinnacle has been reached yesterday with the LGBTQ+ livery on the Focus of InnocentJok3r: the thread was flooded with homophobic comments about the livery (not saying anything but some of them were 'MURICANS, as always XD).
Another one was that guy that gave a 1 star review on the iconic Hazzard livery because of the confederate flag (i hate cancel culture, because erasing the past won't make our future better).
Braindead people aside, the forum is pretty good: there is a lot of communication and, most important, collaboration: i talked a lot with " a plane guy" when i asked to fix the Lancer Evo and he was very polite and funny and made me love the beamng modding community much more.
About the paid mod chaos, i don't really care so much because i think it's pretty fair paying for months and months of hard work. The only downside is that people that cannot pay (economic situation, being a kid etc.) can't use the mod.
Anyway, guys, Braindead people need to be ignored, easy as that!

1 Star review guy here, has since been deleted by mods. Thing is, you can't really be non political in these times and video game devs and forum/repository mods have a responsibility regarding what's posted. I know that the movie car is from a different time when flying that flag was not as offensive. But what's next, thin blue line flags and other questionable symbols? BeamNG is not the right place for these. Devs have to set a boundary about what's acceptable. No hate to the modder in question.

I understand you. I'm the first to reject racism and all that bs (my mom lived racism on her skin and she told me horrible things) but i think it's just a Livery. Anyway i'm sorry if i've been harsh to you, i thought you were the classical guy who wants to create drama but, after reading your reasons, i respect your opinion. Btw, have a nice day.

As a matter of fact, the game has improved a lot in the last 4 years. I have no idea about the community, because I'm not a very old player. Where are these paid mods mentioned?

Notice the word "anymore" in this post. Time has really changed, everything has its beginning and its end, I guess, it's time to move on.

Wtf is wrong with people in the Forum? i'm pretty young (almost 20 years), but i was here since when i was 15/16 and i noticed how much this community was going downhill...
The community became so much toxic that the quote of LucasBe is not wrong.
I saw everything: homophobic comments, people insulting autistic guys, people who life threaten modders and other forum members and the list could go on for a lot of pages...
I just don't get this big wave of hate and i think it's not only the kids member's fault (some omophobic comments came from well aged people, older than me).

Social distancing is detrimental to people's emotional intelligence.
Hate crimes IRL is also on the rise

No prob! i was severely bullied for being fat when i was a kid and this taught me to not trust people. I always stand up for this type of things.

Why being homosexual or black can be a problem for some people?

In my country they say: "every homophobe is a repressed homosexual".

I really hate the "you cannot be non-political" talk because it's one of the many reasons why the entire gaming industry is falling apart. Games stop being made with fun in mind, and are instead completely soaked up in politics to the point where it's not a game anymore, it's a propaganda piece. And the reason people play video games is because they can zone out of the real life issues. By shoving those real life issues back into the games you only ruin them for people who play the games to get away from those real life issues.

And as for the Confederate flag, this is purely an American issue, much like the issue of slavery, and America is only one country in the world. BeamNG is made by a German company and a lot of BeamNG players aren't American so they couldn't give a damn about the issues America has with that flag. That's the other issue, projecting American political issues into media that is consumed worldwide. Europeans don't care about that, they just want to enjoy entertainment. And I'm sure there's a lot of Americans who really do not care about the General Lee car being a reference to a Confederate general with all the negative implications of that. They enjoyed the TV series and liked the design of the car, and they don't care about the symbolism.

I believe that politics should be kept away from video games, and if you're gonna include them, make it so that they feel like a part of the game and not something shoehorned in just so that the authors of the game can pander their views to you. And if you don't like certain things in a game, like the General Lee livery, just don't use it. If a game has topics or things you don't like, don't buy it, don't play it. Don't force what you believe the game should look like onto the authors and simply accept that some things cannot satisfy everyone.
