    It's the same thing as getting out of jail on good behaviour or getting different insurance because of any other factor. If you're so scared of people becoming docile, why don't you go make yourself useful and protest or something.

    Drivers are not prisoners, people don't commit crime to become a driver. Once a driver bought a vehicle, said vehicle no longer belongs to the manufacture. Putting surveillance equipment on a privately-owned civilian vehicle is effectively reducing said driver's quality of life to a prisoner. The driver, the manufacturer, the user-unfriendly vehicle are puppet, puppeteer and strings, respectively. Also, "it's a way to reduce road rage and improve traffi safety" is false. Unlike clearly defined laws and policies by legislators, the algorithms made by unfriendly manufactures are both arbitrary and non-free. Thus, it's clear that those vehicle manufactures are power-thirsty and they want to dominate the drivers, if they use clearly defined criteria and free and open source software, the public will know what's going on and no one will buy these vehicles.
    Well, I have insufficient power. I'm surrounded by people brainwashed by fear-mongering media, they even believe conspiracy theories like COVID lowers your IQ by shrinking the brain or make you infertile by reducing your balls. And I have told them numerous times propaganda is much worse than COVID itself and being fear-mongered can cause psychological distress and prolonged psychological distress can and will weaken our immune system. I'm not able to convince them, but at least I'm not one of them.

    Insurance companies have it as optional- they aren't power thirsty, just giving safe drivers a way to reward themselves (and possibly bad drivers to give themselves an incentive to do better).
    My extended family in Texas thinks that the vaccine has a tracker and a brain chip in it. I feel you bro.

    IRL a Tesla Model 3 got suspension damage after hitting a curb at 40mph. Source

    In BeamNG, you can get your vehicle's suspension damaged when you hit a curb as slow as 8mph(Bastion, Sunburst). Is Beam's suspension too fragile?

    EDIT: how did it hit the curb?

    You can absolutely destroy a car by hitting a curb wrong IRL, even at low speeds. Even hitting a curb funny at 8 mph will likely cause you to need an alignment, there is a lot of energy going through the car and suspension itself.

    As someone who purposefully jumps curbs at every chance in BeamNG I'd recommend hitting them at an angle as close to 45° as you can get. The closer to parallel your wheels are to the curb, the riskier a slide into the curb is. Hitting the side of the wheels tends to bend things as it would IRL.

    And ignoring or minimizing the problems with EVs, as that list does in several ways, isn't going to make them go away either.

    I knew before even clicking on that link that it was going to be a horror show, but this part really stuck out to me.

    No. And not just no, but shame on them for trying to lull people with this tripe. "About the time it takes to enjoy a cup of coffee" - I don't drink coffee, but I bet I could down one way faster than that, because depending on where I am and what I'm doing, I may not be able to afford even that much of a break. The EV still can't beat the full-refill-in-less-than-5-minutes capability of ICE, and as far as I understand it, it may not be possible to ever get there.

    As for the rest, I wasn't wrong about it being a horror show. Context-free appeals to popularity, cheap dunks on myths that are not widely believed, not even widely thought about, or just very far down the list of problems with EVs, "vast majority of cases" type BS that treats large percentages as being functionally equivalent to 100%, and several mealy-mouthed admissions that "Actually, you're right, this problem does exist, but we're totally working on it."

    Of course, given that this is a government document, the unquestioned assumption that a car is nothing more than an appliance is basically a given.

    I find the 4th one funny because rather than proving the batteries will last longer they just say "yeah they have warranties longer than 5 years and we think they'll probably last longer"

    You think it'll be able to cope, eh? Well that might be true in the UK, I'm not from there so I wouldn't know; What I do know, however, is that where I live they'd have to destroy the entire power grid and completely redo it because the power already goes out from too many people doing simple things at once

    There are indeed some scenarios where recharge speed is not yet sufficient, yet those are increasingly niche cases that vast majority of mainstream car buyers simple does not care about. Especially not because this faster refuelling comes with an ever increasing price tag, which will BTW also kill the ICE in the business market rather swiftly. See all those electric transporters from Amazon? They dont care about the environment, but they can calculate.

    There is also this discrepancy between what people claim (I want at least 900 km of range with my diesel) and what independent surveys say they actually do. Like making a break ever 300 - 400 km anyway. Which is within the capabilities of most modern EVs.




    To be fair, the lifetime of EV batteries tends to outlast expectations significantly so far. We have still pretty good batteries from over a decade ago and technology in this regards has significantly improved.

    There is also the 5 % average price drop per year, leading to the interesting phenomenon that the battery even in the event of an untimely end has increasingly good chances to be cheaper to replace than all the wearing ICE parts and auxilary systems we just eliminated from the vehicle. The more modern an ICE, the more complex ts is and so the probability and price of a repair only goes up. Just a few things:

    • Dual Mass Flywheel
    • Clutch/Torque Converter
    • Timing belt
    • Injection system
    • Turbocharger
    • Exhaust piping and exhaust cleaning

    A few of those things failing/having worn out cost not less than new battery... except that those parts get worse while the battery technology gets better and cheaper.



    Regarding questionable sources: Correct, but that is true for most fossil fuels, too. And while it certainly is in dire need of improvement, batteries are used... they are not consumed like fuel is. A battery can at least partially be recycled.... the 1000 L of fuel you burned are gone forever.


    The general advances in battery technology mean that less of the rarer materials is needed. Fossil fuels that are cheap to dip into are increasingly rare and then there is this climate change problem that also will make it less and less interesting to use them for anything as mundane as burning them for power.

    The car industry being a multi billion euro worldwide business, I have no worries at all about them finding a solution for that particular problem well before 2050.



    The Grid can handle it, that is the verdict of grid operators all across europe. If yours cannot, this indicates piss poor infrastructure like in the US where a few AC units to much already cause issues. You may wish to fix that anway, because we are going to need a lot more AC in the future due to global warming.

    The concept of a small EV for city use is growing on me, something like that little JDM Honda that I can't remember the name of; however; I don't feel BEV's are the future anyway. Hydrogen is the future as the only emissions you get from either an HEV or Hydrogen ICE is water, not to mention it's endlessly abundant. And before you say "but ICE is still burning and herp de derpy derp," if there isn't a hydrocarbon present during combustion, you will not just magically create one. Hydrogen is 100% clean burning.

    I also feel pro-EVers ignore those with no access to off-street parking to charge their cars, among other logistical nightmares. For instance, I do have off-street parking, but I have nowhere that's covered for the charging station. I have an electrical engineering degree, and you got me fucked up if you think I'm mixing several hundred volts either AC or DC with rainwater that's full of minerals. You want me to have a BEV? Fine. You build me a garage, install the charger, and then buy the car for me. Oh, don't want to? Guess I'm not giving in, then.

    Oh and not to mention, but putting out a petroleum fire is, y'know, possible. A compromised battery of any chemistry will continually catch fire.

    And one more thing, banning ICE cars goes against the poor people worship a socialist agenda loves oh so much. Do you HONESTLY THINK that someone who can just barely afford a car in the first place has the means to purchase a different car, set up a charging infrastructure, and then somehow afford the increase in electricity costs?

    And now, for something completely different:

    I live in the, erm, "great" state of Ohio. Look, I do not give two shakes of a tail feather about the environment, but I feel that there should be an incentive for people to ride vehicles like motor scooters 200cc or less. You can already do something similar to this here with mopeds; however, the restrictions are absolutely ludicrous. Allow me to explain:

    >Must have a headlight (fine)
    >Less than 50cc (erm, sure?)
    >Less than 1 brake horsepower (getting rediculous)
    >Less than 20MPH (32km/h) on flat ground (now they're useless)

    Over the age of 18, you do not need a license to ride a moped if you have a valid driver's license, but you do need to register it. Once. For life. This is fine.

    Now, I feel the restriction should be raised to 200cc or less, maximum speed of 55MPH (~89km/h). It find it absolutely and completely unfathomable that the state of Ohio sees a smelly, loud, obnoxious, heavily polluting 2-stroke moped in a different light than a 50cc Honda Ruckus because the Ruckus makes 3HP as opposed to the 1HP limit. A 3HP Honda Ruckus, that can't go faster than like 40MPH, is seen in the same light as a 200MPH Suzuki Hayabusa.

    Everyone I have talked to on almost every part of the political spectrum agrees with me. We should be incentivizing this. Do you know how fast I would go out and buy a 150cc Chinese scooter that gets like 100mpg to ride too and from work on? Sign me up!

    Not really. Source, source and source.
    Consumerism, not ICE technology, is the culprit. If consumerism is eliminated, a significantly more % of the people will be able to do cheap DIY repairs to their engines.
    This is more like many developing countries in the 1990's, not modern US. Then again, passive cooling is a thing. It's possible to build your house in a way to reduce AC power consumption by using wind power and underground heat. Unfortunately, most poor and not-so-rich people are living in apartment buildings rather than houses.
    Inconsideration and hatred, if you see a "enthusiast" who want to ban certain types of cars, you know that they are driven by hatred. Considerate enthusiasts don't want to use authoritarian power to ban their competitor.
    IMO, battery electric motorcycle is a good choice. Some of them have removable battery pack that you can charge it in your house or inside an office. In one car parking space you can park four motorcycles. Many electric motorcycles are capable of traveling at a speed faster than 32km/h. They are quiet so they don't disturb people when riding in residential areas.
    Extract hydrogen from water is energy intensive. I think biofuel is a better alternative as growing said biomass also capture carbon dioxide and liquefied fuel and alcohol are easier to store.
