They used Torque3D before but have been slowly but surely rebuilding everything, and at this point I would call it fully custom since they got rid of some last remaining Torque3D leftovers in 0.25

Does anybody still use some of the old school tricks from when the game first released?

The thing I always remember from my early days from this forum and the game was running the game on effectively "potato" settings on a 4 year old system, thats 720p 20fps on a good day, to now being able to push 1080p at max settings and pinning it to 60fps (I lock the FPS to that because screen tearing) but I do like where I have gotten to with my game.

Since I found out about the code behind this game, I have added in additional units to the game, I am willing to help out the team with that but also improving the granular detail of a few applications within the game itself to provide a cleaner detail, for example in the torque curve application the default detail is set to 250 units, for a small car say the Pigeon that barely has say 75 bhp all you get is a line so far down in the graph area the application itself is useless, I altered that to 25 units and as a result of that, the granular detail I like is back and it actually shows the torque curve a lot better than on the 250 unit scale, I may try 10 units to see if that improves it again, but its what I like to do and I am willing to help the team with getting little app updates sorted to improve them

Even 2017 (first played) compared to 2019 is impressive, let alone 2012-2022!

Wow, it's been ten years since the game came out? It definitely doesn't feel that long. Looking forward to more coming in the years to come!

I have some old nostalgia photos of my own. I've decided this is the occasion to post them for the first time:

I found this game through Rigs of Rods, I can't even believe that this sim is 10 years old. It doesn't feel like that much time has overcame, but ive been here since the release of the Demo. I really appreciate this game, I will never forget how much this team behind BeamNG really care for the community and I always recommend this game to anyone who has a PC and wants a nice car sim that doesn't break the bank but also has endless hours of fun. Thank you guys for giving us such an amazing game. I can't wait to see what the next 10 years bring for BeamNG.Drive. Big thank you to the development team behind BeamNG, and please keep doing the amazing work you guys do!

Just discovered this 10 years thread, so watcha gonna do... :p:p:p

I first heard of BeamNG in 2017 and it has become my favorite car game ever since because I am a big fan of realism in driving games (even though I only have an anemic system) and because I like the imaginary world - or lore - BeamNG devs have created. It's a real breath of fresh air in a world of licensed content and the modeling limitations it consequently brings along.
Glad to know of this game and to be a part of this community! ;)

I remember the excitement I had after seeing that first gridmap video. I checked in weekly until waiting for an opportunity to play. Of course my potato back in '13 had some issues running the game, but now years later I am still just as excited every time I see a new update pop up! Thanks BeamTeam for the amazing work over the years.

BeamNG is an absolutely spectacular game! First picked the game up in what, 2019?
    I don't even know.
400+ hours, spectacular and supportive community, and glorious physics.
I've found myself wanting to drive old cars (from the directx betas) in 0.25, so I made this whole mod so we can all relive memories again.

I'd love to jump in to this one and say: (I apologize I missed this thread a few days ago....old man needs to look around a bit before posting)

I can't say enough good things about BeamNG Drive and the development team. They have provided 10s of thousands of gamers an unfathomable number of hours of enjoyment with this soft. Let alone the physics enthusiasts! I jumped on board many years ago, and have never been disappointed while watching changes and experiencing the improvements. Just fantastic, keep up the great work.

I'll be right where enjoying BeamNG.Drive right along with all of you. Looking forward to what's to come, and enjoying what is here.
Thanks Dev team! A great job deserves praise!! And this isn't my first time :)

I remember showing the first teaser to my Design classmates that liked cars during high school right when it came out, I was so excited for the future!

I remember that I created an account on the very first website you guys had.

And after some years playing the pirated version I finally bought the game when I got spare money to spend, and it felt good supporting something that I loved for so long!

I can say for sure this is my favorite game, and one of very very few games that I haven't stopped playing for this many years in a row.

I just wanted to say thanks -

To all the devs and people behind BeamNG. I must be one of the earliest still-active members and am so grateful to you guys for keeping BeamNG alive. I remember over a decade ago finding Rigs of Rods; blasting around in Gabester’s original Gavrils on maps such as Nadeox’s N-Labs. However, that game had many flaws which due to free nature of the game never got fully resolved. Even some test files I managed to get ahold of with a better UI and bug fixes never fully satisfied me.Then, I heard whispering of a new development, a game led by some of the people behind Rigs of Rods. I remember following along with the development until the first video of the D15 was released. I vividly recall the portion of the video where the truck is driven over cobblestone and you can see the frame flex causing the cab and bed to move independently. Something about that really stuck with me and convinced me to do everything in my 11 year-old power to get it.

When they opened up the forum, I jumped to create an account. I also clearly remember on the day the game was released how I begged my dad to buy me the game for my birthday which was just a few days later. He knew my mom was not super into the idea but he bought it for me anyways.

These days I don’t play the game much. I just don’t have the time honestly with medical school. However, it is without a doubt the one game that had the biggest impact on me as a child and adult. I spent thousands of hours playing and modding the game. Even more being an annoying little s*** on the forum (thanks for being so patient). The game truly gave me a connection to automobiles that nothing else managed. It gave me an outlet to experiment and tinker with cars when I didn’t have one in real life.

At this point I’ve had 26 or so cars. I’ve built 6 of those into drift cars and tracked them. I couldn’t even estimate the number of awesome friends I’ve made and inspiring people I’ve met through this crazy hobby. The best stories of my life mostly involve cars. It’s difficult for me to imagine myself today if it weren’t for that silly game I bought way back when I was 12. I guarantee that kid with dreams to learn to drift and drive manual wouldn’t have existed and neither would the me of today. So again, I just wanted to extend my gratitude to all the people who made this game and continue to keep it relevant for the next generation.

    - Josh
