-The original 48-215 was based on the Opel Olympia OL38 with a Pontiac prototype engine (and everything until the 70s was gradually evolved from that) -Then the VB-VL Commodore was an Opel Rekord E with a Senator A front end stuck on, so it could fit a Holden "Red" I6 from the late 60s (unrelated to the aforementioned Pontiac engine). -The VN-VS Commodore was a widened Opel Senator B with a Buick 3800 or Holden 5.0 V8, -The VT-VZ Commodore was basically a restyled Omega B with a newer Buick V6 or LS. -The VE/VF Commodore like this one however, used the Zeta platform made specifically for it (though it probably borrowed a bunch of engineering from the previous opels) and the only non-Holden designed car to be built on the Zeta was the 5th gen Camaro.
All VFs were manufactured in Adelaide, Australia. GM then put Chevy badges on them and sold them as Chevy SS in America
