Hello, I'm fairly new to mods in this game, and I'm wondering if people have suggestions for safe and reliable third party websites for installing mods. Thanks!
Welcome to the forums! I do not recommend any, but definitely check out the Land Vehicles section of the forums. Any of the threads that say WIP Beta Released or just released you can download. If they say Experimental it may not have a download. If it says WIP, On Hold, or cancelled, it usually means that there is not a download available. If it says Outdated, There is a download (usually) but it may not work as advertised. Also, do not "bump" threads. that means to post a reply to a thread that has had little to no activity in months. Please also read the forum's rules.
Yeah, I was given a link to modland that was a Toyota supra mesh on the wigeon. The description is now my pfp because it was beautiful
Most third party websites are both unsafe and unreliable, they have lots of trash mods and some trojans. GTG mods team website is safe and reliablale, but as far as I know all of their mods there are the same as they upload here on the repository, you just get them earlier there. 2fast website is safe but probably not too reliable, their mods are lower quality most of the time, with some exceptions. Beam-monsters.com is safe and reliable but it only has content related to monster trucks, nothing else. Private websites of youtubers are usually full of reuploaded mods from the repository and are not guaranteed to be safe. Private Discord servers should be safe, but it's really hard to find one that actually has good mods on it. So in conclusion, mostly the repository and this forum are the safe source of good mods, with some exceptions outside of them that are limited and sometimes hard to find.
Here is a list of bad websites 1. www.modland.net 2. https://beamngdrivemods.com 3. https://www.worldofmods.com these three are the main ones you should not go too
I would rather go to beamngdrivemods instead of 2fartracing Worldofmods is a big no, it has exe virus
Thanks and there is a good Russian website version.com --- Post updated --- Autocorrect and it vk.com I found out about it thanks to @BNGF and his distracted driver 3 video in the comment section. --- Post updated --- Is a bad website right?
it's not that everything outside of the repository is a virus, people are simply going off their experiences. Make sure to download only the ZIP file and check the ZIP file to make sure there aren't EXE files in it. Also make sure to scan the ZIP file with your antivirus. Take those safety measures and the third party websites won't be so bad to download from. Tip: if you don't want to install meshlaps, don't go to worldofmods, downloaded a bus mod and it had the wentward's JBeam and configurations.
Welcome to the forums Third party websites are a very...sensitive topic on most BeamNG related media, as you can probably tell. This is my take on the whole thing, some might think this is very wrong, but after all you're allowed to have different opinions. There is a slight chance of getting a ransomware or a virus by downloading from any of the above listed websites, however you're not going to be under a large risk as long as these files are compressed zip files, or rar files. If it's an exe, I wouldn't even bother. For example: the world of mods installer. If I remember correctly, this is an actual virus and contains malicious code. The main reason why 3rd party websites are despised is because of the way they operate: they take someone else's work from wherever, the repository, the forums, sometimes even from another 3rd party website, upload it to their's and make money off the ads on their site. And when I say from wherever, I mean wherever. A large amount of the time modders might even find their unreleased or private mods leaked onto one of those websites, sometimes with and sometimes without credit. Nobody likes having their work or themselves disrespected in such a way. TL;DR: 3rd party sites are bad not because of possible viruses, but because they make money off of other people's work, while said people get nothing from it. The best sources of mods are the repository, the forums, and the discord/YouTube of the creator. Hope this clears things up
