idk if this fits here since its the world editor ui, but since it does have to do with ui... im gonna post it here in the hopes that its acceptable lol.

the world editor ui acts really weird for me, as everytime i open, the upper bar is thicccc asf, i cannot resize it.
    20211205182954_1.jpg

the workaround that worked was re-select the default ui setup, which also acts weird... and only after re loading the default ui, i could resize the thiccc top bar.

If the World Editor layout gets messed up beyond repair (View > Layouts > Default / Revert to Factory Settings... won't fix it) go to your BeamNG.drive/0.24/settings and delete the imgui.ini file. You get a brand new editor layout without having to re-install the game.

Gonna be honest here and say what all of us who have been playing this game for years are thinking: Bring back the OLD UI or at least MAKE IT AN OPTION!!! The bootlickers in here should be ashamed they're praising such a horrible UI. I used to be able to tune my vehicles with minimal effort, hit esc, go to vehicle config, change parts. ALL WELL I WAS SEEING MY CHANGES IN REAL TIME!!! What type of downgraded hackjob UI is this? At least make the old UI an option, it was much simpler and fun to use. This new UI sucks, hell the sound isn't toggleable on and off, and don't give me that "Mute the Effects" crap, I shouldn't have to jump through hoops and sacrifice the other sounds that I do use to fix an issue I didn't create. Notice how all the posts with this same general viewpoint get much more likes? There's a reason! Nobody really likes this new UI menu and those who say they do are lying to themselves or trying to get brownie points with the devs.

This isn't even to start in on the RAM leak that is STILL an issue, I got 24gb of ram in my PC and it maxes it in no time. Beamng devs bring back the old UI or make it an option! We've been playing this game for years this new UI update wasn't even necessary, very few people really wanted it, the majority were happy with what we had.

TL;DR Old UI is VASTLY superior to whatever this dumpster fire is! ByteGuy is 110% correct in his statement!

    "ByteGuy said:
im really sorry but it really didnt need a redesign. The main issue is all the fundamental problems and all the complaints we had with the UI still occur. Its still slow, buggy and now its even more clunky with the redesign. Its not great. It makes the game feel more janky to play and it lags the same if not more than the old one (which is the main complaint we had with the old one). We didnt really want or need a redesign we wanted them resources to be put into making the UI run smoothly like it does in many other games.
As you can see by my post history ive never ever disliked a Beam update ever. But the new UI is the first thing that has stood out as a downgrade in all these 8 years of playing. I hope you can understand and take this into consideration."

Did nobody even read the explanation why the UI redesign had to happen? Basically 2 reasons: The map mode (main feature of the update) wasn't working at all with the new UI (if they added it back even as an option now, it would break the map), and because it ran on extremely old code that had been outdated for years and only still worked by chance (that's the reason why it was terribly slow). We didn't want it, but we NEEDED it. The new UI is still slow and buggy, but for different reasons: it seems to be remade mostly from scratch, so it suffers from all the problem new content has, namely lack of optimisation and having some bugs, and also because it had to be rushed, because some people were getting ultra impatient about the update and insulting the devs and begging for teasers... And also because it probably has still some old UI code left in it because they had no time to fully replace, test and polish it. The leftover code is probably causing the memory leaks. All the bad stuff you are saying about the UI is just because they had no time to implement the QoL stuff that the old UI had. And bruh "Nobody really likes this new UI menu and those who say they do are lying to themselves or trying to get brownie points with the devs" can you not speak for everyone in the thread? I'm personally ok with the new UI, it just took some time to get used to it, I know there are people who don't like the artistic value behind it, but there had been so many people begging for dark mode in the past that there was no other option than to make it black and "ugly". As for sounds... I agree they should be either changed to less annoying ones or maybe you could select what sounds to play and what not. But that's your only point I agree with lol

i really like the new ui, makes the game look much newer, and not like a 2008 game in the menu.
the map feature is really cool, makes me go 'holy crap thats amazing' every single time i open it.
for people who say 'waaaa new ui bad, laggy, not good, crap, they ruined it' etc, listen to this:
    1. the old ui was running on hella old code, as tdev, himself said.
    2. since the old ui was, well, old, it had QoL stuff implemented a while back, and was being improved as much as possible, but now since, there were new features that the devs wanted to add, that just broke the old ui, which at this point was about to go K.O., a complete redesign was meant to be done.
    3. This new UI, is well, new, so as with all new things, there will be bugs, resource leaks, etc.

these bugs, WILL be fixed, soon:tm: as right now, the UI is around 30% done, (might be a bit optimistic)

So, please wait until the ui is fixed/finished and then give the comments as its still a..... wait for it, ....... W.I.P. Beta released. :p

I have some improvement suggestions for the UI:

For the Overhead Map, can you add a Map Legend with checkbox filters that can show or hide the different Mission Types, similar to the checkbox system seen in the A Rocky Start Campaign overhead map?

Can you please make the Navigation App be part of the default UI layout?
Having the Navigation App to guide players when doing Missions makes it easier to follow routes and anticipate hazardous turns and roads, as well as help understand the map better.
It's really tedious to add the Navigation App for each of the different Missions.

Can you add the option to disable the On-Road Navigation so that only the Navigation App displays the GPS route?
When I'm driving to a destination, I like to appreciate the scenery and I prefer to periodically glance at the GPS route in the Navigation App to guide me rather than following the blue On-Road route which I find distracting.
Basically what is shown in this image below:

Notice that only the Navigation App is showing the GPS route and that there are no blue On-Road arrowheads being displayed on the road.

Can you add the option to set a GPS route to a Quicktravel Point?

An issue that is present in this update is I'm no longer able to resize apps.

I'm hoping my suggestions will be taken into consideration as I feel that they would help improve the gameplay experience.

We don't need to make the UI disappear during Vehicle Customization.
NOTE: I don't hate the new style, any style works for me.

Love the new UI. My only wish is that the vehicle picker menu gets one more column in 3440x1440 resolution, it looks a bit comically huge. Will attach screenshot later

The UI seems to be slightly stretched on 21:9 displays (2560x1080), causing it to appear blurry. Check the images attached to see it clearly.

When in game, try going into settings, and change the UI maximum resolution to: Disabled (bruh the emoji lma)
Should fix it, because i think right now your UI is set to maybe 1920x1080p

I originally posted this in the 0.24 discussion thread because I forgot this thread existed. Quoting it here for visibility:

I had a play with the UI using a controller as much as possible. Using a wired XBox 360 controller, here are my observations:
    • I can't highlight options with checkboxes when using the D-pad, the cursor just skips right past them.
    • When using the bumper buttons to switch between tabs, there are inconsistent freezes. I mostly encountered then when trying to get to the vehicle select and vehicle config tabs. Ideally the user should be able to hover the tabs and press the selection button to load it, if there's an optimisation issue here.
    • I found that any time I needed to highlight something and then confirm that selection, spawning in a new vehicle for example, the process is not intuitive. My suggestion would be for the user to be able to select the vehicle they want, then the cursor to go to the "Spawn New" button in the bottom right corner. It is not obvious that the user has to double-tap the selection button. Same goes for the quick travel feature. When the user selects a quick travel location, the cursor should go straight to the confirm button, the user shouldn't have to navigate the cursor around the UI to get to that button.
    • More of a general bug rather than UI specific, but some of the buttons on my wired XBox 360 controller would stop registering inputs during gameplay. In my case, it was the D-pad and both A and B buttons. Only way I could resolve it was to quit the level and reload it. Respawning the car or refreshing the UI didn't do anything.
    Hope this info helps.

I've seen some people mention not being able to see UI apps with the vehicle configuration menu open. I don't seem to have that problem.. Everything appears to work as normal, unless I've missed something.

Why the hell would you make the old UI an option? If they did that then everyone allergic to change would just use it and the Devs would never get any constructive feedback to improve the new one. Not that anything you've written is constructive in any way. In fact it's insulting and I feel dumber having read it.

Every problem I've found with the new UI has been with a lack of controller optimisation, something I remember having similar issues with when using the old UI too. Using the mouse it is perfectly fine, better than the old UI in many ways.

"Everyone allergic to change would use it" Dude, it's a much simpler, better UI that takes way less time to navigate and use. You know you are right, they wouldn't get any feedback, cause nobody but a very small minority like yourself would ever use the new UI. You even imply that yourself. It should be an option, everybody who's played this game for years except ThatCarGuy seem to agree on that, we've been the ones playing the game for years, we should be able to choose which UI we want to use.

"kindly stop throwing around insults at people who have no disrespected you in the slightest, thanks." I never insulted anybody, just said they should be ashamed they're supporting such a horrible change that was never asked for, never wanted, and not even optional to revert back from. Our only hope is somebody makes a mod that you can change the UI back since devs apparently don't care at all to let us disable this hot mess that is the new UI.

...And that's exactly the point he was making, are you agreeing or arguing, I'm confused. I mean if the devs added the option to revert back to old UI then everyone would obviously use it because it wasn't broken. But it literally CAN'T be added because it would break the map mode.

I'm sure it's been said before somewhere over the course of this thread - but the fact the numpad controls for the menu on the UI have disabled the same numpad controls for the camera is a big issue - and the fact they seemingly can't be changed is a bigger one.

    "Bootlickers" isn't an insult?

About the UI: I like it, but it's a little bit more cluttered now- I wish there was the option to hide things like filters in the vehicle selector.
As for the new forced dark mode- It's fine, but I think the UI could use a fresh coat of paint to match the new menus.
The background looks kind of bluish-black, maybe a darker color? The red buttons sort of clash too, orange would look better. Reverting to a black background for vehicle thumnails would be an improvement.
Replace the font and get rid of the rounded corners too- that would look nice.

From a usability standpoint, I don't really have anything to say that hasn't already been said, except maybe the paint menu in the vehicle selector- maybe the little shiny preview ball could have metallic effects and stuff?

You can get outta here with that false consensus bullshit. Just because you don't like it, doesn't project onto the entire player base does it. I'm not even going to get started on the irony of simplifying a UX by including multiple selectable interfaces.
The old UI was one of the most contentious parts of the game. It was slow, laggy and hard to navigate. Many forum users have been asking about the new UI since it was teased a few years back, so I don't know how you've come to the conclusion that it was never asked for.... but then I suppose since you never asked for it, that is the voice of the entire player base pouring through your keyboard again.
Well, get cracking then. You seem to be an expert on UX development. I look forward to seeing your improved UI.
