Hey TDK, I don't know if this asked before, is this very modular way of creating engine sounds can be usable for game? Have you ever come across this channel's videos on youtube?

Regarding EV sounds, I own an e208 and I'd be happy to provide sound reference for the sound team, since currently I do believe the EV's in game could use some details. For example the mandatory pedestrian horns at low speeds and motor whine noticeable more on certain EV's than others.

I don't know if startup sounds are planned but those are prominent in newer vehicles and especially EV's since there is a lack of any engine feedback when it's "on"

It would be great if you could provide us with EV reference sounds, the pedestrian horns is indeed a nice feature we might want to add. I´ll definitely keep that in mind!

Hey! Let me know what kind of sounds and I'll go record some on my next free day. If you're on discord my username is the same as here and you can let me know the details.

So I just spent some time with the EV's in game and have some things to note.
The e-sbr's motor sound has great potential to be a pedestrian horn on the very low RPMs, if made louder and separated from the EV motor noise it can mimic a pedestrian horn very well. It simply needs to activate upon moving and begin to fade out/ be drowned out by tire noise above 30km/h. This can work for the e-sbr and the Vivace can have a unique one too if you want that detail.

Now speaking from experience and mainly on the Vivace since my EV can mostly be related to that, the motor sound is pretty much inaudible at low speeds due to the pedestrian horn overpowering it, it grows louder with more power put down, and also when regen kicks in. When at a steady speed it will typically hum and depending on the speed have a high pitched sort of electrical sound (a little hard to explain.)
Recording EV sounds might be some trouble and the ones on YouTube simply don't pick up the sound as you would in person, they tend to be too muffled or the microphone picks up other louder noises far stronger than it should.

This video is the closest I can find to what rough acceleration would sound like on a compact EV

This one is a good example of the pedestrian horn, (and the vacuum pump building up brake pressure)

Thank you, that´s definitely some useful feedback for us and the reference videos are great too! There are a few other things we are currently working on, but I´ve added pedestrians horns for electric cars to our to do list.

The thing that I don't like is when there are no doors in the car you still can hear like the car is sealed.

The game had really good wind sound when driving in 3rd person fast that gave sense of speed but since 0.23 i feel like this noise has dissapeared. Might be just me but if there is someone that noticed it too he can comment

Yep, we don't like that either - same with the roof/no roof.

I'm not a fan of lots of wind noise in chase camera (although there are a few people in the company who are). I want the noise to be created by the car pushing through the air, not the camera pushing through the air.

We had more of this a few versions ago and there was a lot of negative feedback on the high volume of the wind noise in 1st person/bonnet camera.

Oh, so my assumptions were correct. So i guess the volume of wind noise in 3rd person will stay like that from now on? If that is the case can you send me a file which has the pre 0.23 wind sounds for personal use because i really liked them? :)

It's not as simple as that. The wind buffeting emitter (the place where the sound 'comes from' is at the front of the bonnet of the car, the volume is set within the audio system and is not exposed to the user. Likewise, we then alter what we call the 'maximum distance' of the sound event - so how far away from the emitter can the sound be heard, by reducing this distance in the middleware we can make the sound quieter, or indeed louder, in that chase camera view. Again, this isn't something that is exposed.

Alright got you. As you said there are a lot of people that prefer more wind noise and vice versa, so is it a good idea to make a poll asking the users bunch of things about sound and that could be one of the questions?

Ok i will rephrase myself, '' there are few people that like more wind noise''. And for the poll?

No, I'm not going to run a poll on this. As I mentioned a few posts up, I'm not a fan of the camera making it's own sound.

That being said, I've gone in and increased the maximum distance from 12 to 20 metres (remember 20 metres is silence), and also lowered the roll off curve (how quickly the sound reduces in volume over distance). To compensate I've removed bass and treble from the aero at distance to make it more of a mid-range sound. It's a subtle change though, perhaps you won't notice.

In the latest update sounds at speed seem to be improved precisely in the way i wanted and everything is fine now so thanks :)
