I have a weird problem with one of my maps. It's a simple cliff/slope map, with one side at a max height of 512 units and the other at zero. Whenever I try sculping the terrain at the top of the slope, whether I'm trying to raise it, paint noise, or do anything that would increase the height, I get holes right down to zero. Is there a problem with raising terrain above the max height?
Thanks. I solved that problem. Unfortunately, I created a new one. (Edit) Or not. Maybe I just need more patience to try reloading after making changes. For those who may have similar problems, here's what I did: I had already put a row of barrier trees around the edge of the upper plain, so I wanted to leave that at full height. I was also concerned that reducing the entire upper part might cause a new problem with creating a new max height. Plus I'd probably have to reposition the trees. So I left a narrow berm around the edge with the barrier trees on top, activated the Set Height tool, and picked a point about 20 units below the map's max height. I flattened everything except the very edge of the upper plain at the new height, then smoothed the resulting 20-meter cliff, as well as the irregularities I created on the edge of the main cliff. Then I drew some noise on the upper cliff to break up the monotonous flatness. I'll smooth it partly again because it's supposed to be a plain, but at least it's not Saskatchewan-flat anymore. The new (brief) problem: I exited the editor to drive around a bit, and the ground under my wheels was transparent at certain angles. I had to leave quickly, so I posted a question on the forum and left. When I returned and started my map again, the transparency problem was gone. So I guess the lesson is, if a new problem appears, exit and reload before giving up!
