What defines a configuration as a "police car" to AI traffic?

Hey, I was wondering the question above, specifically in the case of AI traffic.
When you're in a cop car, you'll occasionally come across fugitive cars that you can chase down and arrest. The problem is that from what I can tell, what counts as a cop car seems to be hard-coded in some way, meaning you can't create your own police config for this purpose - the fugitives won't spawn.
I find this especially annoying because most cop setups aren't to my liking, especially because most of them are autotragic.
What you can do is spawn the cop car and then modify it, but if you then save that car, it won't be a cop car anymore, so every time I want to chase things down I first have to manually set the car up.

So I'm wondering if there's some way I can define a config of my own as a cop car. Is there a file where all the police configurations are listed or something?

If the word "police" mentioned in the config (.pc) file, the game handles the car as a police car.
At least that's how I was told.

That used to be the case but doesn't appear to work anymore. Now you have to make an info file specifically stating that it's a police car.

    That seems to be it
I made a random, very civilian I-Series config into a "cop car" by copying and renaming an info_*config*.json from the original .zip into the configs folder and doing this:
    "Config Type":"Police",

So yeah, I guess that's my problem solved
    Thanks

If you want a good laugh, I just added the police lights from the standard Vehicle Customization Menu to the D-Series "The Disappointment" and now it acts like a police car and chased me when I blew past it with a fast car. I didn't add or modify any info file, Config Type or anything.

Looked pretty funny being chased around by these things.

Well, not completely apparently. I remember doing this with the Grand Marshall but I just tried it (I'm on 0.23.5) and it didn't work.

Could you provide a more detailed description of how to do that? I've been having issues getting a custom police config I made to work.

All I did was add the "police light bar" from the vehicle customization menu to the Pick-up "The Disappointment". Nothing else. I re-staged it to show what I did and to make sure it does work. I had to slow waaaay down to let the "police" truck catch up to me for the screen shots. Yes, that's a Le Gran but a very modded one. I tried putting the police light bar on a plain Grand Marshall and it didn't work (it used to) so I'm not sure why one does and the other doesn't. I don't know how to do a screenshot of the parts menus. Maybe someone else can do that?

Interesting that doing so only works some of the time. I assumed that was how any vehicle could be made into a "police" car that could interact with AI traffic.

Meant to reply to this before, could you provide a more detailed description of how to do this? I have a Grand Marshall custom config I have been trying to make work.

First, go to your game folder, /content/vehicles, open fullsize.zip, go in a few folders deep until you see a ton of files. Copy one of the info_something.json files (ideally info_police) from there.
Then, head to the folder you find the Grand Marshall's custom configs in ( C:\Users\(your username)\AppData\Local\BeamNG.drive\0.23\vehicles\fullsize ) and paste it in there. Rename the .json to info_(yourconfigname).json.
Finally, open the .json and adjust the information to your liking. The most important things to keep in mind are that you need to keep "Config Type":"Police", in order to make it work as a cop car, and that "Configuration": defines the config's ingame name, so you'll want to change that to avoid confusion. The rest is just info, it has no real bearing on the car itself.

Also, your config won't show up at the top among the other custom configs any more, but be further down with the official ones.

For me its just slapping a light bar from the normal configuration menu (Ctrl W) and then its a police car
    (also works with concealed flashers)

You just have to find where you installed the game.
It can be a bit of a struggle, so I keep a shortcut to there in a more reachabe place.
    But, as this message said:
    You need this file (edited)
Also, the thing determining its position in the vehicle selector is the price value, so make sure to change that accordingly to where you want it to be in order.

If you spawn in a police car (that works with AI) and convert it back to a normal car does it still register it as a police car?
    Maybe leave the lightbar on?
I mean it could work, couldnt it?

I literally can't find what you are talking about or what other posts have talked about either. I put \Documents\BeamNG.drive\mods in my files search bar in Home and nothing comes up, same goes for the files mentioned in the post. Could you maybe make a video or set of pictures as a tutorial? Since there's a high chance I'm having a major skill issue right now.

In the game, go to vehicle config -> save & load, there’s a „Open user configurations folder” button.
It should take you to 0.30/vehicles/
Also, the file path is /Appdata/local/BeamNG.drive/0.30/mods/, and that in-death message didn’t even mention the mod folder :p

My car is named Pursuit Hawk so I copied the info file for the undercover car and pasted it, renamed it to info_pursuit_hawk.json and changed the configeration to Pursuit Hawk, but it still isn't working. Did I do something wrong?

What’s the name of the .PC file exactly?
If the info file is info_pursuit_hawk.json then the pc file should be pursuit_hawk.pc
