Late last year I was wondering what vehicle is criminally under represented in video games. I figured that getting some AMC's in beam would be well received. The only models that I have seen are Rebel, AMX and Javelin. The AMC Concord is a personal favorite of mine, so now I had my basis. Now obviously aside from the over priced and some would say inaccurate humster3d models there were no models for me to use. So I commissioned the models through fiverr. The models I received were very accurate but just shells. Single sided models don't really work well in video games, especially in beam with its destruction physics. However the models are nice enough for me. Trying to figure out a chassis proved to be far more difficult. I wouldn't use any mod chassis because they are mostly just repurposed default jbeams. So the Moonhawk and the Barstow were strong contenders. The moonhawk has a ladder frame which isn't accurate to the original car. But the interior and engine types are perfect. The barstow is the correct chassis type, subframe and unibody but the engines and the interior are less than ideal. Since I only have a rudimentary understanding of Jbeam and blender I knew it was going to be an uphill battle. I shelved the eagle's and ported my Aries onto the LeGran chassis successfully but it was nothing more than a poor meshslap. However it did give me a basic understanding of materials and beamng's file structure. I decided to attempt to find someone to help me modify the moonhawk to be acceptable. That effort was less than successful. Than the LeGran remaster dropped which added several new parts and a rear wheel drive transfer case to it. The LeGran was a perfect size also. So I went to work and ported the sedan I had on the LeGran Chassis. While it worked and functioned correctly the body structure does not really fit my mesh. and the chassis type is completely wrong. So that is where I am currently. I have a functional but unreleasable port that I managed to pull off myself. I have found someone that is going to build the Jbeam's for me. He just needs to get his computer up and operational. I have learned a lot about modding this game and now understand the immense amount of hours that it takes to build a from scratch mod. Even doing a sloppy port takes a fair amount of time even if more advanced people can do it very quickly. I have a new found respect to all the developers and modders that build content for this game and I hope that someday I can finish this and make a legitimate piece of content that you all can enjoy. The Eagle was thought up by Bruckell Engineers in the mid 1970's as a competitor to Ibishu's small to medium car offerings that were beginning to encroach on the North American car market. Originally the car was only offered as a 2wd. 4x4 was offered on the "Limited" trims later and eventually was the only drivetrain available. A 4 cylinder and a I6 were offered. A special order V8 version called the Scamp was produced but rarely ordered and is highly sought after. The Scamp was never offered with the 4x4. Four body offerings were available. Sedan: 227 thousand units during whole run Station Wagon: 376 thousand units Sport back: 110 thousand units Kammback: 37 thousand units Despite being the cheapest domestic offering in the US sales were far shorter than expected. The car was considered to be out of style compared to the sportier and more reliable Japanese offerings. Bruckell was forced to ask the US for a bailout in the early eighties. The money was used to develop the far more popular LeGran and Satyr marquee.
Im surprised all the bodies are planned! Very nice, may need new name though. Is pbr planned or is it already added?
hekk yeah! i would love to have this in beamng! with knowledge in one hand and confidence in the other, this shall become a reality! best of luck.
Hello, AMC lover reporting in. I'm glad someone finally decided to touch on this marque in the BeamNG modding community. WIsh you best luck with the project! Oh, and one more thing: the overfenders on these models you posted look a lil bit too large for me
My plans for now is to refine that port onto the LeGran and get the wagon ingame. Once my partner gets online he will most likely rebuild the whole Jbeam from the ground up. Likely using the Moonhawk as a base. I think I want to do a 4 cylinder that is close to the GM Iron Duke that these came with. As well as alter the I6 Moonhawk to match the 4.2 AMC I6. For the v8 I believe the small v8 that is in the Barstow will be for the Hopped up Scamp. Detuned of course to mid seventies AMC 304 power numbers. The port that I am doing will not be released publicly. Once the new jbeams are completed that version will be released. I want all four versions out at the same time. My version is not worth being released in its current state, I do not want another fiasco like I had with the Satyr. Thanks for the interest.
Out of curiosity, if Moonhawk will be the base, then how will it be changed to a unibody? Will the frame be removed, underside stiffened and suspension attached to that, or will the frame Jbeam be integrated into the underside, or will the whole underside and suspension be copied from another car or remade from scratch?
Great question! Either I just take what I want from the Barstow "IE Chassis" and just swap in the Moonhawk interior and such. Or Just use the Moonhawk chassis and use creative license. Say in beam universe it was a body on frame. It is going to really be up to my collaborator. So while I do not have any photos I have been hard at work in blender. Expect a photo response later today.
So, after struggling with the headlights for far longer than I wanted I did make some progress. Disregard the rest of the body, I still need to remap the textures and edit some parts. But the take away here is that this is a Concord front end, not the wide body eagle. Unfortunately it broke the tire offset. so I will need two separate offsets.
I’m surprised I didn’t find this thread earlier. Looks good so far but just one thing- the tires look a little bit too large for the size of the vehicle so it looks a little too high off the ground for its proportions. I know this is still heavy WIP so I hope that as you continue working on it you can make it look more natural.
