Hello, I created an account here because I'm trying to create a skin and it is not working. I've watched a few videos and followed them. But when I put the skin on in-game, the vehicle is orange and black and it seems to say NO TEXTURE. What did I do wrong? My skin is in a zip file in D:/Games/BeamNG.drive/0.23/mods
The game was installed with Steam, so the game files are not in this folder but that's where all the mods I installed are. I included the zip file and a screenshot of what appears in game. Any help is appreciated.

There's something pigeon-specific that you have to do now I guess because of the new update, it broke my pigeon skins too. I don't know what it is though

hi, welcome, your texture and .jbeam are good but the .cs file type has been looong deprecated for materials. the best way i found to make skins is to copy a preexisting material and edit it.
beamng's vanilla vehicles files are found in the install folder, under content. once you navigate to the pigeon's files find the "skin.materials.json" and copy it to where your mod is.
(btw you can work on a mod in the unpacked folder in mods so that way you don't have to keep rezipping it)

first thing, rename the material file. it can be anything but i prefer to keep the ".material" so i'm gonna call yours "maintenance.material.json"
now open it and you'll see a list of every skin for the pigeon and their material setup. but we only want one material so delete all but the first one, the streetcleaning skin.
rename the lines at the top to match your skin (the name, "name", and "mapto")
i'm just gonna swap streetcleaning for maintenance

now start the game, load a map, switch to the pigeon and you'll see your skin is in the game, but it's not actually your skin yet it's just a renamed streetcleaning skin.
to edit the material open the world editor (F11 by default), click "Window" at the top, and then open the Material Editor
now click on the pigeon so we only see its materials, and in the material editor click the drop down and look for your material
collapse the "layer 1" section and expand the "layer 2" section.

the first "BaseColor" texture is what you want to change, click the image and in the file browser find your texture, select it, click open.
now it's looking closer but there's still some things to change, under layer 2 delete the streetcleaning metallic map, and under the advanced properties for layer 2 delete the color palette map since you don't have one.
now click the save icon at the top of the material editor and you're done (the edited and saved material from this editor will go into your appdata folder under vehicles\pigeon)

hope this wasn't too long but i wanted to make sure i explained clearly, i'm gonna attach the material file i made for your skin if you wanna take a look or just copy it over, but i recommend trying it yourself so you understand how to do it

Hello, thanks for your detailed answer, but I'm having some issues. The skin.materials.json file that I have is not the same as yours, there are some extra lines and some that are missing. The file I had resulted in nothing appearing at all, so there was nothing on the material editor to edit. So I used your file instead, and when I put the skin on it was simply the original vehicle color but washed out and "no texture" being written on the roof. I was able to edit the BaseColor to put the actual skin on, and that worked, but the color was washed out. I've searched and found the metallic map, but there was nothing there, nor was there a color palette map.. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong, is it just the update that broke things as the other guy said? I've included my skin.materials.json file so you can take a look at it.

    Update:
I have tried your method on another vehicle, the Covet, and it does not work either. The skin shows up in "Paint Design" , but when I select it nothing appears. In the material editor there is no skin at all either. I'm getting the skin.materials.json file from the game files as you said and it's not working... what may be causing this? When I used your file I got it to work, I realised the washed out color was because I did not delete the white background, but when I use my files it doesn't work

the materials update complicated things a bit with the new texture maps, but other wise it's mostly the same. with the file you linked, that looks like the default file for the pigeon skins. that file needs to have a different name than "skin.materials.json" and you need to rename the skin within that file itself.

I know, I attached the default one because it was different than the default one you have, but now that I'm looking at the file, it seems there is a "}" missing at the end, maybe this is causing the problem? I'll add it and see what happens

EDIT: I tried it on the Covet and it works fine now, I figured it out. Pigeon should work, but do you know how I can remove the black outlines on the van body? they're kinda ruining the look.
BTW thanks for your help, I finally made a skin! took a screenshot of it (it's not the pigeon, I'll do it after)
