I happened to see an old forum thread and it's funny how now years later we're finally getting it! It looks absolutely gorgeous, especially when I saw the comparison with the SBR4, like... my god, it's so much better and so much cleaner. But I'm glad to see we're getting some fresnel too, because I always wondered why the car reflections seemed so off, and why the car paint just didn't look right. I'm curious about the whole "metallic" thing though, like if it's gonna be a skin/tweakable, or if basically every car now will have a metallic effect. Although, it would be cool to be able to make custom two-tones (like iridescent paint) and the like.
The preview looks incredible, but now beamng will be even more punishing on hardware(on ultra at least)
I might sound weird here but im kinda inbertween liking and not liking the new graphics. Beamng has this immediately identifing look to it that no other game has and i like it. These new graphics look cool and all but they dont look fit to be for beamng Just my opinion dont wanna start a fight
I really didn't like the new lighting in 0.18 initially because it felt so different. Now I can't go back to pre-0.18 lighting because it looks so much worse. It'll probably be the same here, it'll just take some time to get used to.
The difference I noticed is that pbr have the paint in this game some more realism and depth.. before, it was just, paint glossy or paint chrome. Nothing in between, no metallic look, no stuff like that.. this is a welcome update.
Also, it was reflective everywhere. Also why the paint looked so "off". Whereas with fresnel, now the reflectivity is based off of camera position and angle.
IMO this graphics update is a very good improvement compared to what we have right now. The current graphics feel like an early PS3/Xbox 360 from a 2005 or 06 game whereas the new PBR graphics looks like a late PS3/Xbox 360 game from around 2010-2013 or an early PS4 game. I hope this is the start for more major graphics improvements in the future, e.g. Global Illumination, Reflection Probes, Bloom, etc.
