Hi guys. I think this is my third map entry (yay)! DISCLAIMER: This is VERY early in development, I've started it this morning. Also at this point, It's a flat...nothing. Top Plan: Flat and BIG! And to make it based on an interstate highway--ish thing. Starting completely from scratch here, IE: L3DT and the whole 9 yards. -Some math: 4.6miles by 4.6 mile square =21.16 Square miles of space for me to work with (and I might enlarge it more) The pythagorean theorem tells me that diagonally, there is 6.5 miles of distance. I plan to add slightly more dynamic terrain (it rolls but it isn't that dynamic. Towns are planned with streets and buildings WHAT YOU MAY HELP ME ON: I'm still pretty new. I don't know how to add objects (or the process to doing it) outside of BeamNG...I want Roadsigns...badly Also I'd like to use different road textures...lanes for divided highways... If you can help me let me know please This project may take a while but I will post updates often... Do lots of research on what plains geography looks like and have fun with it. I think a map like this has good "big sky" potential if done right.
Work update: Added about 2 miles of roads and completed my first urban-based neighborhood! It looks out of place now, I know, plans have been made.... Continuous work on the terrain portions! This is the type of map I've wanted in any game for a long time. Looks like a good map, also the picture with the no-entry signs... Is that an exit ramp?
My mom had the TV going downstairs and when I typed out my first comment, I heard that creepy ass song that WMUR uses for Fritz Wetherbee's segment of Chronicle and I just laughed at how well timed it was lol.
This should be pretty fun. What kind of environment are you designing it after exactly? If you're going for plains the overpasses are usually built on mounds like this: http://mediaassets.courierpress.com...5703-pic-905343745_6324476_ver1.0_640_480.jpg Bare concrete/structural support is usually only in cities where there isn't space to lift an acre 30'. Smaller roads that can be shut down during construction w/o traffic problems go over highways, bigger (state highways mainly) go under or are left in tact.
character limit lulz - - - Updated - - - I'm going for a semi-urban environment in the backdrop of a highway. I'm trying to make those "mounds". What I do is gradually build up a small hill and create an overpass over the course of about 1/4 a mile. - - - Updated - - - Yes, it's an exit ramp ^_^
Hey man, If you need some ideas of what it should have along it and such. Search up "Alberta Highway 2" which is in my province, it is mostly plains on that highway and is really fun to drive. Hope it can help you maybe a bit.
Work update! I've been quite busy working on this! What's been added: Custom Roads and Textures! (Textures by me) Various buildings and objects (most not by me) to include a tall urban building, BIG superstore and a low-poly hospital thing.. Roadsigns! (creds to sketchup) Terrain editing! (almost done) 21 Miles of roads thus far! Not close to being finished but an Alpha (not a beta) may be around soon for bug testing only. On my roads...the asphalt texture seems really low-res...any way to fix? (see the photos) Thanks for sticking with me and providing much needed info!
Hopefully its not too much to ask, but I think it would be cool for you to have a straight line of road from one end of the map to the other. I like to see what top speeds I can hit (300, 400+) and that would be great. I can kinda get there in the desert map but not really. That's all. Also the planes could use it as a runway. Or maybe you could put a telephone poll at the end for obvious crashing fun. EDIT: its too bad everyone else makes their maps so small.
Sorry for the lack of updates because I've been busy...work and such. An airport has been planned since the beginning... As for a straight a** line...that shall be my next project after this one
