This is the 1968 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500KR. About a year and a half of work has gone into this mod to make it crash and handle just like the real thing. Alot of research and countless hours of observing how the car rides in videos on youtube was put into this project. The video showcases several features: 1. Handling and body movement. 2. Separable parts. 3. Crashing and body deformation. 4. Different variants (stock, race, fastback, convertible, auto, manual...) Technical details: The Jbeam is based off of the Moonhawk but several major changes were made to fit the body and panels of the mustang. Suspension and steering also had an overhaul. Steering: The steering originally came out of the moonhawk however it was heavily modified to a completely different setup. The 1968 mustang’s steering system is located aft of the steering box and came with a tie rod attached to the back of the hub (aft of the Z-axis of the wheel), whereas the moonhawk’s steering system is forward of the steering box and tie rod is attached to the front of the hub. When it comes to the jbeam, the tie rod nodes which connect the tie rod to the hub (fh3r/fh3l) had to be placed at the back of the hub (with proper triangles and beams). With the current setup, the car’s steering is reversed since the whole steering system is now aft of the steering box which means the steering box gearing had to be changed so that its output is reversed. In the Jbeam, this simply means multiplying the steering factor by -1. Rear Suspension: The moonhawk’s rear suspension included coil springs whereas the mustang has leaf springs. To solve this problem, a “transplant operation” is done. The rear suspension out of the Burnside was put on the mustang. The biggest challenge was to find spots on the body and frame to attach the suspension and then tweaking values to make it handle like a mustang, otherwise the rear was sagging and bouncy over bumps and dips significantly under heavy acceleration. Drivetrain: The engine (428 CobraJet) has all the correct torque values gathered from several sources. It has the correct oil capacity, radiator fluid capacity, radiator size, fan speed, fan clutch engagement etc... The transmission and differential all have the correct gear ratios and final drive ratio for automatics as well as manual transmissions along with offered options of limited slip and open differentials. 0-60 times and weight of the vehicle are close the real world values. Seatbelts: The seatbelts are experimental. It is an attempt at making soft fabric using nodes and beams. Built in rollcage: The 1968 Shelby GT500KR came stock with a built in rollcage. This is also built into the jbeam of the mod. Issues and further work : 1. Texture quality. Never been good at texturing. Also should consider moving to json materials system. 2. Spiking under transmission tunnel. (Solved) 3. Spiking door panels. (Improved) 4. Overheat issue. Although all numbers and radiator size match real life. 5. Race version leans to the left when heavy braking. Need steering wheel and pedals to properly assess and tune suspension. 6. Convertible version is experimental. Still has some Jbeam issues (improved). EDIT: 06/27/2021 Jbeam stability improvement. Average force: 323 Several details fixed such as : correct air cleaner colour, correct wheel colours (Note: The paint jobs in game might not look like the real life pictures due to graphics, shader and lighting quality etc... but they are the correct RGB and brightness). Spotlights fixed and calibrated The 1968 Shelby 500KR came with sequential taillights, same as the ones on the Thunderbird. Working dash with calibrated needles showing correct time, fuel, rpm etc... The tiny mustang logo under the clock illuminates when highbeams switched on. Fixed and calibrated auto shifter now in correct positions: Overall Jbeam improvement, cleaner deformation and more convertible variant improvements (convertible variant is still experimental and prone to unpredictable behaviour) Weight (Gross weight), 0 to 60 mph and quarter mile times reflect real world values (improved): Whats Next? Final suspension, chassis and body torture (stress) test simulating heavy use and beyond normal operational capacity in order to determine ruggedness, stability and reliability. Will record and document the process on video and post on Youtube if required. Heres the link to the channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCyGvarVLDiJ6FabQTB34KMQ/videos Released! God DAMN! this looks so clean! I hope this becomes a real thing and not just another mod we stare at on the forums for months on end. Good luck with getting this thing done and released, I'll definitely be watching this thread
Was totally expecting a garbage meshslap, but instead I was pleasantly surprised. This looks really good.
Youre back!! atleast i think its you with the old ford mustang thread that dissapeared out of nowhere. correct me if im wrong lol.
I'm not a Ford guy, but these older Mustangs just look fantastic. You did a very nice job with this model!
No thats not me. This is my second mod. My first one is the 1991 Chevrolet Caprice. --- Post updated --- It will definitely be released. Just waiting for the youtube video to reach a number of views and likes. In the meantime, just doing some minor cleaning and adjustments.
Looks neat, but it seems that some of the body areas lack edge split, like the trunk & part of the body infront (behind?) the hood
It will definitely be released. Just waiting for youtube video to reach a number of views and likes. In the meantime, just doing some minor cleaning a Yes absolutely, the trunk on the convertible needs a bit if work as well as other parts of the body. Please be aware that the 3d model is not mine (as stated in the credits) but heavily modified and cleaned by me.
Agreed. The most noticeable areas are circled: Another area that could see improvement would be the lights. It looks like there's just a low-quality light texture slapped on. It would be cool if you could model the lights. Then, you could change the light texture to glass. Other than that, the mod looks great! Keep up the good work!
