Hello, are there any tutorials on how to start on a new map with the new editor? All the guides I found are outdated, the folder structures are completely different, nothing is like it was 3-4 years ago. For now I would be happy to figure out how to even start a new map.. thanks --- Post updated --- I´ve been doing some map editing about 3 years ago, so I am not completely clueless but since even all the folder structures changed, the old tutorials cannot be use. I would like to create a new map with a heightmap I created in worldmachine.
You can access the old editor by "Ctrl + Shift + F11". What I did to make my mountainous map: I opened the old editor, created a blank terrain, opened new editor and edited that terrain. Btw, I used the older editor to use forest editor, I couldn't figure out how to do that in the new editor. The only important point is that you should create your terrain with the older editor
I´ve been doing some map editing about 3 years ago, so I am not completely clueless but since even all the folder structures changed, the old tutorials cannot be use. I would like to create a new map with a heightmap Thanks for the reply! I want to use a heightmap I created in Worldmachine for the map. However I want the map to be rather large, same size as Italy map. The old editor does not allow for a terrain to be any larger than 2x2km. So worst case I´ll stick to that but there has to be some way? https://wiki.beamng.com/Starting_a_new_map_project unfortunately this tutorial is almost completely useless by now, since even the folder structure within a map folder has changed. Therefore I cant figure out which files to rename, delete, etc..
I used that tutorial but I didn't change any name and I just changed something in the info.json file. I don't know why he said rename something in material file or something, I didn't do that and everything works fine. By the way, for having a map bigger than 2048×2048, in the inspector menu click at "square size" and change it from 1 to 2, then your terrain will be from 2048×2048 to 4096×4096 and if you change it to 3, your terrain will be 6144×6144. By the way, I didn't import a 3D file into the game as a terrain, so I can't help in that case
thanks for the reply! sorry to bother you with more noob questions.... Apparantly in the current version of BeamNG (I just reinstalled the game to have all the folders in a correct setup), the folder structure is completely different. the Documents/BeamNG/mods folder is gone, now it is found under Appdata / Local / BeamNG.drive / 0.22. So now I struggle figuring out WHERE I copy the desired "base" map, in my case this would be jungle rock island for the right objects, and WHERE to put it in order to have a copied version to start editing on...?
Copy the jungle rock island .zip file into your mods folder, then open it, go to "levels", then rename the "jungle_rock_island" by anything you want (without space) then go to that folder, then open the info.json file and edit the "title" and some other things, then launch the game, then spawn in your map and edit it. --- Post updated --- By the way, to find the jungle rock island zip file, go to steam/steamapps/.../.../... (the place that you installed beamng.drive in it) then open beamng.drive/content/levels then you can see the zip file
