    Hi Guys,

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but I'm confused on how to install the latest update.

I bought the game through steam, but I installed it on an external hard drive due to lack of space.

When I open steam and navigate to BeamNG, the green button which normally says 'play', instead says 'install'. Is this right? I would have expected it to say 'update' instead.

If I click 'install', it prompts me to choose a location for install, as if it's not installed already, but it is.

If I follow the instructions and try to install it in the same existing location on my external hardrive (Steam > Steamapps > common > BeamNG.drive), then it say's 'failed to add new steam library folder'.

What am I doing wrong? The game has been working perfectly until now, and I have quite a few mods installs which I don't want to lose. I have not had the game long so this will be the first update for me.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

    Thanks

Check your firewall / computer security system. Most security systems (Norton, Bitdefender, Windows Firewall, etc) will not trust the newest version of BeamNG. Add the files to your security exceptions and it will work fine.

Thanks for the reply. That made no difference unfortunately. I get the same dialogue box that I mentioned above, followed by another saying that 'new steam library must be empty'.

Are you sure it didn't just automatically updated without you knowing it? You can check it by seeing if there is a BeamNG folder in your local appdata, and if there is one, there should be a folder inside it with the name of the latest version.

Just press install. You didn't delete your userfolder so your mods are safe. I have hear of this happening to other people. Could be because of the userfolder location change.

But won't this just create a duplicate folder and I'll end up with 2 installations? One old one with my extra mods, and one new one with no extra mods?

There is no BeamNG folder in my appdata, I'm assuming this is because the game was never installed directly on to my computers hard drive, but the external hard drive instead. I've just opened the game and nothing seems to have changed so I don't think it has updated. Plus if it had done it automatically then I would assume it wouldn't be prompting me to install the game again on steam?

I have tried pressing install and saving it to the folder where my current BeamNG.exe file is located, but it fails. You mention that the userfolder could have changed location, but I haven't changed the location of anything. When I bought the game I installed it directly onto my external drive and it has stayed there ever since.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am not good with computers, and I know these are dumb questions but thank you for being patient with me, I really appreciate it!

If you can't do anything else, you can install it in a separate folder, and once it's installed, you take the mods and your personal files from the old folder, then you delete it.

I'll save this as a last resort. Which files are the 'personal files' that I would need to move?

You have to press Play to update the game. It's depends of Steam and Game's condition will install update to you (even if you don't see blue Install button there).

No, it's just no exist of new game's version at your PC.

The issue when you have game at removable drives is Steam don't ensure your game's destination. You should to press Install and JUST BROWSE AND POINT TO YOUR CURRENT installation Steam FOLDER at the corresponding removable disk and PRESS CANCEL. After that you have to press Play button to update the game.

Ok so I did what you said, and have had some success, but still some issues. I installed the game again onto my external drive in a new folder, so I now have 2 Steam folders. One with the old version of the game with all my mods, and one with the new version. The first thing I did was copy the 'content' folder from the old version to the new version. This has sort of worked, because the game boots up fine, and all my mods are there, but now the problem is that I can't drive any cars. I can only pan around them, change camera, get in/out, etc, but none of the vehicle controls do anything at all. Is there another file that I'm supposed to have copied over?

One or some of your mods are broken.

Literally none of them work, not even the ones that came with the game.

You should DISABLE all of YOUR MODS and clear cache. And try again. Any of mod can breaks whole game.

The "content" folder contain the base cars that come with the game, so that might be the issue if you cpoy-pasted it from the older version of the game. Delete it and do a steam verifications so that it come back. I was talking about the appdata folder, where your mods and configurations are stored.

Ho do I disable mods without deleting them? I'm sorry, I don't understand.

Yeah that exactly what I did. So just to update the situation, I deleted the new folder with the new install completely, and the old one still works fine. I then went back to steam, hit play, and it began to automatically update BeamNG, so I thought it was working. No luck though, as none of my mods were present, but the game DID work fine. However when I tried to copy the additional mods over from the older version it broke every mod in the game including the existing base cars.

I feel I may get laughed at here, but I've always been putting new vehicle mods in the 'vehicles' folder under 'content'. Is this not correct? It seemed to work perfectly fine until now.

Sorry to be a pain, but could you elaborate on what you mean by 'do a steam verification'? Also, I don't have anything related to BeamNG in my appdata folder at all.

Either move them out of your mods folder or deactivate them.
