Well ... trojan Dont have to be placed into the Files by the Devs Right ?? ... but i dont think Steam itself would allow anybody to add anything to the games either

despite it being unlikely that the devs have put a virus in their game deliberately, it is not impossible.

i would NOT disable antivirus to play the game. it puts our computer at huge risk from other threats

if this game has got a trojan in it, you are basically giving it free rein over your computer and data.

i would not exclude beamng either, id wait until it is completely fixed before playing

I went into Windows Security when it detected the 'virus' and set it to ignore it and it fixed the issue.

It's the first time this has happened for me. But as stated by those above, allow it to run past defender and it'll migrate the files it needs and you won't have any problems after that.

The way I got past it: anyone who doesn't know how, open your local files of beam through steam and find the executable. BeamNG.drive.exe
    - right click it and scan with windows defender
    - it'll say threat found trojan or whatever.
    - click the down arrow and allow it to run.
    - run the file from the folder, and it'll initiate moving the beam files you had to the new directory and the game will run fine afterwards

Mine's running fine now anyway says 0.22.0.1
    --- Post updated ---
You can do that, I just found it easier to disable AV, exclude the "program filesx86/steam/steamapps/common/BeamNG.Drive" (Mine's not there but thats where it is by default) folder with my AV, reinstalled the file that was missing via steam, and then reactivated my AV.

What is naive about that. This is the first time they are seeing this issue. It wouldn't be the first time a disgruntled employee or hacker inserted a virus into reputable software. Take CCleaner for example. either way, bringing it up to the devs is the right move.

It's a false positive. We can rebuild the game from the same sources several times and we get completely random results from 0 detections to 16 detections on virustotal.com ....

Normally we check before releases that we didn't win the lottery - but this time we simply forgot :(

A silent hotfix is out that should calm down the AVs ... :/
