You've already been shouted at and are not liked by the community, no need to make it worse. Suggestion: Much larger bumps and more brutal suspension test areas for high capability vehicles like the prerunner. Also, a car torture area would be cool.
to be honest, some of the offroading areas could perhaps use some vegitation on some of the structures to make it more natural. perhaps some reused vegitation from JRI
a more advanced version of the "terrain testers" with mud/sand/water/drag strip etc. These are useful but could be improved by making them larger or have corners/other features. id like to see them in the new version
Very nice; are there plans for a closed handling course like what is under the skytrack at the moment?
What I'd really, really like to see are make an appearance in gridmap are deformable barriers for crash testing. Maybe they could be spray painted red to indicate they're for crashing into, sort of like the wall shown in the style test render. Now, as for how they would work beyond the actual deformation (Most crash barriers use a honeycomb structure AFAIK), I'm a bit lost. Perhaps there could be a "crash testing" UI app that deals with spawning them in and repairing them, but that seems a little complicated to me.
that render looks really awesome; i'm glad the revamp will eventually include more car-based tests like handling
this really looks promising, love the concrete textures, hope to see some ivy plants sneaking in some places
This looks really nice indeed, I hope you will add something that looks close to the big structure near girdmap's spawn where you can drive in and do some maneuvers, it's really interesting to do with all the heights variation and tight turns, that's something I really like to do ! (even if it's impossible to reach the top of the structure with the bus, I tried countless times...)
The new Gridmap looks really nice. One thing I like about the current Gridmap is the little crawling area with the stairs to the right of the spawn, I would love to see a bigger version of it in the new one as well.
Seems like something that would need a beta version to really apply to everyone. The idea in general seems good though. Maybe a circular skid pad and some kind of IIHS barriers and stuff for crash testing. I think Gridmap loads faster and is just a more useful all around testing tool. I forget the driving center is even in the game.
Well, yes, this is why I'd like to see that map expanded to become the place to test realistic vehicle stuffs opposed to the forgotten about map that it currently is. My vision would be keep gridmap as a virtual sandbox test center and turn ETK into the realistic map test center (imaging a map that combines all of these into one). Leeloo's post mentioned that Gridmap is getting realistic suspension/handling tests, which makes me worried that Gridmap will be a catch test all and ETK map will continue to be the forgotten extra. Maybe that's the case, maybe we will get the best of both options, only time will tell. Anyway I don't mean to turn this into a place to discuss the ETK map. *We really need official discussion threads for each map/vehicle and general threads for each sub-forum*
To be honest, regarding ETK, I'd much rather see it integrated into an upcoming German map similarly to how they integrated Port into Industrial Site.
SO excited by this. Especially the river, the offroad portion, and the suspension tests. Testing traction limits is fun in this game. Can I suggest various hill grades? The Automation test track has this but they're 1) not long enough 2) The grades don't get that steep I've been to OEM proving grounds and they have pretty substantial hill grade tracks.
This, definitely. There's a lot of great jumps for testing but it's always one-and-done. It's really difficult to find a map where you can string together a number of big-air jumps at speed to really punish vehicles like the Prerunner. Another suggestion I had is adding new spawn points, although I'm sure this will be addressed regardless. There's currently five, really only the "Default" is genuinely useful if you're interested in destruction testing (which is what the majority of Gridmap is used for). Sounds like the proposed changes so far are really going in the right direction.
One issue that I take with several of the current suspension test maps is the amount of jumps and track layouts. They're almost solely intended for destruction it seems, rather than testing. I love the CrashHard map (albeit the amount of jumps are - while suiting that specific map - overkill), for the sake of it having some more realistic road patterns and undulations. There's also a purpose-made section of the map for testing suspension vibration which I'm grateful for. Given this information, I'd like to see, rather than a destruction-focused suspension section, something more along the lines of manufacturer testing sites, or torture track that isn't outright destructive. Being from Detroit, driving everyday seems like a suspension testing scenario GM's testing facility actually has a stretch of road called 12 Mile Road that mimics the real pothole-ridden, heavily undulated 12 Mile Road that runs east to west throughout the metro area. I'd like to see something more along those lines or even the kind of testing track Fifth Gear used to add wear to a W124 Merc Wagon..... that video holds a special place in my heart
