Siebe, he said that, right? Van and Civetta means Vanster and Civetta Bolide. Right?

    Looks awesome.

    tdev/gabester/hutch,

Are the aspects of the deformation you expect to be able to improve over time as CPU power increases ? Just stuff like parts clipping through each other and that kind of thing. Or do the things that would significantly improve the quality require vast amounts more power that you can not even begin to consider?

I just ask because 8 Core consumer CPUs arive next year... 2x CPU power to play with :D

the more power you have, the better or faster the simulation gets, it currently scales with the CPU core count :)

Does it also apply to threads or just to physical cores?

Cool. Have you done any experiements with trying the physics on GPUs ? though I appreciate it's a pretty huge undertaking.

8 core cpu's already exist. Amd has an 4.0 ghz 8 core procesor :)

If you didn't know about it have a look here: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/amd-cpu-fd8350frhkbox

Nothing. They'll just start discussing computers again and images will be lost in the 200+ new pages ;)

Yes, we've had fanboy arguments here.
Gabester, your soundcloud is making me happy. I'm listening to fall fountain right now. Calming. :D

I thought it was faster to calculate physics on the GPU rather than the CPU? (Nvidia Physx?)

Sorry, I meant Intel 8 core, fully aware 8 core variants are available on Intels server cpu line and AMDs line :)

It is for a lot of things, but possibly not everything. How BeamNG would fair I don't know, but i'd like to find out.

It can be. I think CUDA is planned, and maybe physx for the tire smoke, but that was at the beginning of these forums.
But I'm still listening to gabester SC, and they all have a gabester touch but are all different. Me likey.
Been tapping my foot in time for the past 15 minutes. XD I play trumpet.

This was discussed about Rigs Of Rods, apparently it would be much faster (in that case) not only because of the parallel processing (hundreds of cores) but also because the GDDR5 RAM is much faster than the DDR3 stuff in your mobo. But the issue here is you are taking performance away from the graphics engine to work on physics. This would also mean that you have a CPU sitting around doing very little which would be wasteful. So while you could do the physics faster the graphics would be a little slower and you would be utilising less of the PC.

But the faster RAM was the biggest improvement as it apparently would help a lot.
