Ok so for the first time in nearly 3 months, i could take the Torana out for the day, oooh it was good be behind the wheel again. Though the car took a little while to start because of how long its just been sitting but nonetheless it ran damn good. But while i was driving around after an hour or so the temperature start going wild; From a cold 80c right up to 115c, and no matter what speed i was doing it would just jump around like crazy. I reckon its the thermostat, well i guess in the 20 years or so my pop had the car it would only driven like once a year to a car show and back, so now that im driving it at least every month (except for the past few months) everything is breaking and giving up on me. At least its easy and cheap fix. Oh yeah and i think i need to reset the rear springs or at worst get new ones because its sitting about two inchs lower than it should be. And at some point when i get enough money i would like to remove the flares and use the money to touch up the paint professionally
Update on the car; It seems to be running on 7 cylinders intermittently, and now when any form of hard load is placed on the engine it just bucks, coughs, and backfires out the carburettor. So i'd say one of the leads is nearly dead (when one goes the others will too) and the vacuum advance isn't working anymore. Getting that fixed next week at the mechanics (these people only deal with classic cars), that way i can get it dyno tuned and the valve clearances done as well. Aaaah the joys of "factory original" Oh and i forgot to mention that at this shop was a 1961 Desoto Adventurer, it was completely original, with scuffed beige and silver paint, a (base) 361, and a well maintained interior, missing front hubcaps and one of the headlights was gone. It must be an old restoration. I told the mechanic and my pop that i'll happily swap or sell the torrie to have that car, they laughed. They dont know how serious i am
Update to last post: Well todays been fun. First drive without the fullsize spare and I get a self tapping bolt through the center of my rear left tire. Happened right in my neighborhood too, I stopped because I could hear it clacking against the pavement. What are the chances? At least the lettering came out alright:
Currently thinking about getting a exhaust for my car but a proper legal one costs over a 1000 euros but on the other hand it currently Sounds like garbage
Ok so got the car back today, ill just keep it short and sweet, also got a video walkaround of the car (showcasing how terrible i am at it too). Things fixed: -Distributor cap: The contacts in it was so worn out that there was almost nothing at all -Leads: Too old and crap -Carburettor rebuilt: One of the bowl floats was sticking, leaking fuel, and the seals were all dried out, also put smaller jets in it -Points: They were burnt, knew something was up with them, last time i rely on my uncle to check things out -Uni joints on the driveshaft: The mechanic told me that if i had gone out on the highway one more time they would have failed, driveshaft balanced as well -Shifter: Has been fixed finally, now i can manually select gears for legal acceleration -New ignition barrel: The old was so worn out that if you put it into 'Lock' you wouldn't be able to get it out of that position -Serviced the distributor: its been about 20 years since that thing has ever been looked at, now the vacuum advance is working and the condenser has been renewed -New fuel filter, oil filter and oil, sparkplugs too Although the car has been thoroughly looked at and checked over, the fuel gauge has finally had it and wont show a reading any more. Now the next thing that will be fixed is either the front end or the dashboard. Ok now the absolutely horrible video, that i should have taken at another time and place, plus i will get a go pro camera holder thing so i can show what its like to drive and what sort of performance this thing has. I swear i'll get a better video out in the country or something next month, if its so bad i'll just take it down Edit: I give up, no video
