I was made after '85 ;) But I do get what you mean, modern electronics definitely make cars different than they used to be.

Damn I hated removing and installing the transfer case on my 97' Yukon 350. Terrible, miserable job on jack-stands.
1979 Chrysler Newport would like to have a word with you.

I just dont understand why you would think that rwd is "snappy and worse handling" than that of a fwd car, just how ?

Maybe his only RWD car was an early turbo Porche? ;)

I think he's saying that specifically about rear engined cars.
    To contribute to the debate,
This isn't quite accurate, the drivetrain layout doesn't really dictate the weight distribution. think of something like the holden commodore VE, the sedan had a 50:50 weight distribution, compared to the ute, which was something like 65:35. it depends on a lot of things, how far forward/back is the passenger compartment, is it set up to carry loads, etc.
what you may be referring to is the fact that the load on the tires is more evenly distributed, the front tires take the main lateral load and the rear tires take the accelerative load, as well as the fact that under acceleration, the weight of the vehicle shifts to the rear, putting more force into the rear tires, improving grip.
I feel like I should also mention that since contained (FF or RR) drivetrains have everything mounted to one subframe, it also makes assembly and service easier.
another common advantage of FWD is that understeer is more natural, due to the overworking of the front tires.
the propensity to understeer is much more logical to your average buffoon who can't even tell when his high beams are on.
for an experienced driver, oversteer is better because you can balance it to hold the car through a corner, but without the skill to catch/balance a slide, you're likely to spin out, which when you're going 100km/h on a quiet coutry road lined with trees, it's not a very nice prospect.
RR motors aren't any more energy efficient, but rather, it comes back to the preference of improved traction and the idea of RWD having a "premium" feel.
some electric cars are front-motored, the VW Egolf, the fiat 500, nissan leaf chevrolet bolt, and this comes down to them sharing chassis platforms with ICE cars.

Rear wheels don't turn, thus RR has lower U-joint energy loss than FF, RR(or FR) also allows larger steering angle. Without the "sharing chassis platforms", there's no reason for FF EV, also the "sharing chassis platforms" usually means less room for battery pack and possible wonky weight distribution.

Everything stated here is accurate with the exception of one thing: FF is not easier to service for the most part. It is much easier to work on longitudinal engines in V configurations than it is to work on them mounted transversly. What is easier to work on is the transmission and the other drivetrain components.

It’s done. Here was the old one.

    That’s definitely a problem. We’re thinking a U joint froze up.

Nice. Those are easy to find parts for and should not be too difficult to fix should anything break.

Ford may have killed sex, but Musk and the government are trying to kill the car, so you know... it's all even, right? ;)

I should clarify that I'm really dejected about it, but I have to make jokes to keep a light mood (sigh)
