I was testing my drag ETK K (about 1600 hp, RWD, 8 spd auto, turbo I6) at the WCA strip today and I noticed the AI always lifted the front wheels when they launched, carrying this impromptu wheelstand until they lost control. Except MAYBE with a redline neutral drop, there was no way I could lift the front wheels off the ground when I launched it. I investigated the AI launch tactics, and they seem to be revving the engine to around 5000 RPM in drive with the brakes applied. I could never get as aggressive with the launch as the AI could. Are the AI cheating? If not, what are they doing? Also, I prefer fuel efficiency, so am I forgetting something about launching a vehicle? I might look at the AI code later to investigate some more...
I think the AI launches at 90% throttle, maybe try 5k rpm at 90% throttle and see if that gets you the wheelie the ai does.
The problem is that I can't get the RPM that high in Drive without moving the vehicle forward. That is why I suspect that they're cheating. The AI seems to be slipping the transmission in some way, and by doing that they're building up crazy amount of turbo boost. Even the redline neutral dumps that I've done haven't built up the boost as high as they do.
They are using the transmission brake, which allows them to stay perfectly still, but still build revs and boost
