Obviously, this is a stupid question, but are there any bootleg car mods out there that are at least somewhat decent in some manner? Or are they all just shitty with copy-pasted 200BX/Bolide jbeams and nothing else?
How can a mod be bootleg but decent??? Maybe Automation mods kinda fit this criteria but idk if anything else does
As i have said before, there are many half-decent mods out there which people instantly write off as a "meshslap" simply because they use meshes ripped from forza or AC, but which actually have reasonably modified jbeams. no, they are not vanilla quality, but they weren't a passionless 5 minute job either. a good example of these iirc is agent_mooshroom's self-proclaimed "old shit pack" which is available via a youtube video.
Tbh I wouldn't consider that pack "decent", sure there was effort but not enough imo, the Jbeams don't even fit the car's shape in most cases, it's obviously WAY better than mods from Modsgaming or similar websites but like, when you crash a car like that and all the parts go clipping or spinning in the air unrealistically it doesn't feel realistic enough to be called decent. To me the BARE MINIMUM is for the nodes to somewhat fit the shape more or less, but obviously that's not enough, because there's also the node weight and all the stuff with beams, proper density, stress reduction, crumple zones, and then also engines, transmissions, differentials, etc. I know it's kinda ironic coming from me who made a mod that lets the user completely ruin all the hard work that went into making the vehicle by changing all the precisely adjusted parameters at once lol. Tbh making a meshslap would also be an interesting experience and maybe I could try it one day but not release anywhere or give to anyone because it would obviously get leaked and stuff. But mods like that are not meant for the same purposes as full-effort mods, they are just so you can enjoy driving a car you always wanted in the game and pretending it's realistic for fun.
The meshslops in agentmooshroom5's "Old shit pack" have a decent jbeam, however the model and texture quality is somewhere in the mariana trench because those models are stolen from other games. The one I REALLY suggest is the Audi R8 by Tsutarja495 in the first pack.
yes. though again, they don't count as "meshslaps" because they're not "slapped" on, even if not everything has been reworked.
True, technically only bootleg mods from websites like Modsgaming count as true meshslaps because they are effortless. These "terrible" mods from these videos may have barely edited Jbeam but at least there was work put into them to look good. I mean they have custom skins and working custom light bars for police versions and all. Similar story is with the Lada Car Pack, in which the Jbeam was almost unchanged because it was already fitting the shape "good enough", except for the wagons which are literally the same Jbeam but with 6 nodes moved up. That's the only bootleg mod I use, because it has the most effort ever put in a bootleg mod without editing the Jbeam lol
There's no set quality for anything in there, it's a wide range of stuff from different people and times so tyring to sum it all up at once. The only ones in there that are maybe usable is the autozam and tsu's stuff (r8, gallardo, e92) since they had at least some effort put into the jbeams and stuff to make them not dogshit, especially the autozam that one was actually decent Also stay away from modsgaming and the likes at all costs, everything there is either leaked to make some money or whatever and supporting them is not a good idea at all (and that's assuming you can find the actual download amongst all the ads and redirects) or more recently a dumping ground for people's very first mods, but you can usually tell their quality by just how messy they look on the previews. A good way to check to see if something is leaked is to simply check the credits or uploader, if it's credited to cheekqo or the uploader doesn't match the credits/has posted a wide range of mods credited to different people it's very most likely leaked and you should stay right away from it.
I got this GAZ Volga mod, probably the most decent ''Russian mod'' i've seen i a while. Pros: -Interior is good -working speedometer -custom steering wheel -good and working lights -several configs -engine sounds good -Horn! Cons: -Jbeam is meh -bottom is awful -no exhaust pipes -crashes like an automation model -no reflections at all -mirrors don't work Link (Didn't get me a virus, but activate your antivirus, just to be sure): https://modsgaming.ru/load/beamng_drive/mashiny/gaz24_ver_2_0/38-1-0-87703
