Case: speeding causes loss of control and side impact, January 5th 2005. Description: a modified car speeding at over 120mph on a mostly-empty country road only saw a police van at the side of the road at the last second- in trying to avoid it, the driver ended up spinning out at great speed and smashing into an oncoming car side-on. Injuries: the driver of the modified car was killed instantly. The driver he hit was seriously injured, with a major head wound and a broken neck among other things, and had to be cut out of the wreckage. Vehicles involved: 1989 Ibishu PesCoupe GTZ, 1997 Ibishu Pessima LX. Location: New Zealand, near the Automation Test Track. Aftermath: the reason the police vehicle had been there was that it was pulling over the driver of another modified car which was suspected to not be road legal- in light of the events that unfolded before their eyes, that driver was let go temporarily, but he stayed to help. The driver of the '97 Pessima made a partial recovery within about a year, but was never the same afterwards. He, along with the deceased's family, campaigned for better road safety education, and as a result of their efforts the accident rate in the region dropped by 50% by 2009. Photos:

Case: debris in road causes vehicle damage, March 28th 1955. Description: when the first stretch of freeway in Belasco County opened in late March 1955, California's state governor Nye Tilbury wanted to be the first person to drive it- in the back of the governor's office limousine, of course. In their haste to get the road open, construction workers missed some stones and various other rubbish from the construction process- the limo driver hitting a particularly large stone brought the journey to an abrupt end with the car virtually disabled. Injuries: nothing major, though Tilbury's head was slightly bruised where he had hit the roof upon impact. Vehicles involved: 1953 Burnside Special Limousine. Location: West Coast, USA. Aftermath: with its front suspension collapsed and steering damage, the car was dead. The governor's office sold the car for scrap, and it spent years in a field on the outskirts of the county, before surfacing at a demolition derby in 1979. Photos:
Well done hiding the landscape of the west coast USA because there's just no way those skyscraper in the map exist. Concrete bridge intersections too. Nice story btw, I came here by P_enta
Most of that scenery would have been there by about 1975, I reckon. Though it was kinda awkward getting the camera angle right to hide the bridge.

Case: rollover accident, September 2nd 2019. Description: a prototype Cherrier Tograc was being tested at a secretive location in the USA. Part of the test involved offroading at an offroad park known as "Containerland", early in the morning before it opened to the public. A gap between two containers caught the test driver off guard, and he could not stop the car falling into the gap and onto its roof. Injuries: luckily the Cherrier safety systems were pretty much fully developed by the time of this test car's construction, so both occupants, a test driver and Cherrier's head of research, were unharmed. Vehicles involved: 2019 Cherrier Tograc 160Q prototype. Location: Industrial Site. Aftermath: the prototype, which could no longer drive, was shipped back to the factory in Wiltshire and crushed. Its registration number was kept by the factory, and later seen on a press-fleet Vivace 230 at that car's launch the following February. This Tograc build had a different suspension tune to the final model, which saw the addition of a stiffer anti-roll bar and adaptive damping. Photos:

Case: impatient driver loses control during manoeuvre, May 3rd 1991. Description: the elite of southern Europe were attending a party at a mansion in Moltofino. However, one partygoer got into an argument with the valet, and the old man behind him got impatient and decided to park his American barge himself, despite having not driven it in months. The car was an automatic, not like the manual cars he was used to, and it was also much larger- the offset pedals caused him some confusion, and he ended up flooring it into a row of parked cars. Injuries: none. Vehicles involved: 1977 Bruckell Moonhawk Legran, 1989 ETK I-Series 2400ix, 1990 ETK I-Series 2400ix, 1986 Civetta Bolide 390GTR. Location: Moltofino. Aftermath: the Moonhawk's driver was 76-year-old Austrian billionaire Heinz Erbach, who owned a property in Moltofino where the car was registered. He was able to bribe the Moltofino state authority to allow him to keep his driving licence, and bought another car while his Moonhawk was being repaired. The grey ETK was repaired, and the Civetta did not need any work. The Moonhawk still belongs to Erbach's family, though it has not seen use on the road since 2018. The grey ETK remained with its owner, a French nobleman, until 1993 when he sold it- the car's history and low mileage assured that it was passed through classic car enthusiast circles, and it is still around today. The yellow ETK was scrapped, as its owner could not be bothered getting it fixed. The Bolide is also still around, and due to its many travels around the Mediterranean in the 1980s and 90s it is believed to be the highest-mileage Civetta Bolide 390GTR in the world. Photos:
Case: head-on collision, September 1st 2020. Description: a distracted driver using their phone drifted out of their lane and hit a bus head-on. The van following the bus lost control trying to avoid hitting it, and instead hit a fence on the verge. Injuries: the distracted driver had to be cut out of the car, as she had sustained a broken neck, major spinal injuries, a cracked skull and several other extremely serious injuries. Her husband, in the front passenger seat, had a broken arm and concussion- their two children in the back both took some bruising and glass cuts, and one had a broken leg, but they were able to get out without much help. The bus driver had two broken legs and his pelvis was smashed to pieces, plus he had major head trauma. The van's occupants, as well as the bus's four passengers, were fine. Vehicles involved: 2017 ETK 1356, 2004 Wentward DT40, 2006 Gavril H35 4WD. Location: West Coast, USA. Aftermath: the ETK driver did not survive, leaving her husband a single father with huge medical bills to pay and no car to get to work in- and no bus to use instead. Belasco County's underfunded public transport system had no other buses available to run that particular service, but ordered a new vehicle a few weeks later. The husband lost his job due to having taken too much time off, and resorted to doing odd jobs for the community to earn a modicum of income to support his family.
