its a bit sad that we never really got true American luxury, if it had power steering, a V8 and an auto then that was it, you didn't get bucket seats, aircon, engine or trans options. The Barstow would most definitely make sense because it has a similar standing to the mustang, Dealers back in the '60s had rhd mustangs to lure customers in so they'd end up in the petty Falcon. Now i've heard of personal imports of Buicks in '50s but not dealer imports, those were more like lowly Plymouth's and chevs, its far too luxurious and alien to such a conservative market back then. Bluebuck is absolutely spot on considering that as expensive as they were Galaxies were a popular choice for the well to do and farmers (also dont you mean ZA-ZD ?). I've never heard of imports of '80s american utes and other suv's, we just didn't need them because we had cars covering that area well enough plus the size was intimidating to the average punter, and every one had gotten over their obsession with american things by then so no one wanted them anyway (save for farmers)

The mustang analogy kind of doesn't work for the barstow, by 69-71, the monaro, falcon coupe and charger were in full swing.
and up to the 7th gen F250s were pretty common as heavy duty work trucks, i still see a fair few around.

They did import the GMT400 and GMT800's into New Zealand to be converted into ambulances and they were RHD I think.
there are also companies that do real good RHD conversions of American trucks but they are expensive.

Oh the Holden Suburban was sold in RHD in Australia and New Zealand. wasn't that popular because reasons.

Yeah NZ got a fair few things, my mum husband (who is kiwi) reckons that New Zealand was a test bed for what the other countrys wanted to sell to australia, but his conspiracy (seems about right though) And what the hell is Holden Suburban ? we never had such a thing
1969-71 were about the last years the mustang was on the dealer floors because they were no longer the absolute star attraction due to the Falcons, same with GM and Chrysler, as you say our cars developed to a point were we just viewed american cars as no longer necessary, yes those years were just about the last years we saw imports on dealer floors apart from personal ones, oh but Holden dealers were still selling Pontiac Firebirds and probably Camaros too through out the mid '70s

Ok so for that Suburban... What in the hell ?! since when did Holden ever do that ? Yeah seen those Superdutys but only ever on the farms when i was living in no where town. I really dont think many of those '70s and '80s F series came in big numbers though because the only ones i've seen are lhd

I thought the Holden Suburbans were very rare. According to the wikipedia article, only 746 were made over 4 model years, which may or may not be accurate.

I think thats right, i'v never never ever seen a Holden badged one (i've an un-rebadged Suburban) nor has any one i've asked who was around that time ever remember seeing them at all, Even the old guy who lives down the street from me who was a Ford salesman throughout the '70s to the mid 2000's never recalls seeing them at all (probably because he was a Ford salesman)

Shouldn't we go back to update speculation? Sorry for the tangent.

Are there any interesting bits of new information that has been shown by the devs? Outside of Teaser Tuesdays of course.

yes but this entire idea of a teaser tuesday is an idea the team kinda shot themselves in the foot with.
people expect there to be one every week, but then there isnt a teaser because there is nothing to tease.

Yeah you end up wishing for more teasers. But then you could barely say anything (like most dev teams tbh) and the community goes full Conspiracy theorist mode.

Oh yeah like the Prerunner/Crawler D Series. Guessing there were a lot of people who disappointed themselves expecting the update to include it, despite the obvious unfinished texture work, and the vehicle UI needing an overhaul.

Just because something looks finished enough for a public release doesn't mean that it is.

So they're working on the JRI refresh right? I think it is completley possible for the developers to add a town. Except, they change the location of JRI to be in Japan, not Hawaii. That would give us a new country. But, they might not. I do think it is plausable for this to happen, like how they added a seaside town on the East Coast refresh.

That is an interesting idea! I personally doubt JRI would change it's location to Japan, because Japanese drive on the 'wrong side of the road' (like the British, Australian and others), and that requires modifications to the road network, and, more importantly- right-hand drive cars. We currently have two- the Miramar and the Pigeon, but that is not enough IMO to justify a right-hand drive map. Also, IDK if current AI code can deal with right-hand drive. It can probably be adjusted for it, but still...

However, I believe a small town is a fair guess. Back when the devs first announced the remasters, I posted a lengthy post in the discussion thread, in the hope of highlighting bugs and also giving some of my ideas. One of the things I remember saying is that it makes no sense that JRI has a port, a quarry, and a small industrial site, yet there is no town. So where do the miners, factory workers and crane operators live? So I must agree- a small sea-side town seems quite possible.

As a side note, JRI has a lot of interesting and unique places, but they are hidden quite well. For example, I remember way back, before I even knew about free-camera, and before the Hopper existed, I was trying for a good 20 minutes to drive into the volcano (with a D-series I believe), and eventually made it- it was awesome! And even though I have over 800 hours on Beam, JRI is still full of places I'm quite unfamiliar with, and that on it's own makes it pretty special, at least for me.
