Would it be possible to add an option to enable dynamic reflections for only the mirrors and on no other surface? Or are the mirrors made so that they're just textured as an ordinary chrome piece, making them inseparable from the other chrome surfaces of the car?
Mirrors and chrome are two separate textures, however, as they both show reflections they both render only with Dynamic Reflections enabled. No way to make them function otherwise unless the devs use a different technique for the mirrors.
So then it would be possible for the devs to split mirror reflections off from dynamic reflections as a whole, with a minimal effect on the process of how reflections are rendered?
Nope, they are not. They still have to figure out to have Dynamic Reflections available for all vehicles on the map. They could in theory use cameras and display the camera information onto a specific face of a mesh. That would open up a bunch of possibilites as well, such as the mirror being displayed onto the windscreen. @Diamondback perhaps that's an idea?
Late reply but. Dynamic reflections render the scene over again (not at full detail, but still). The reason they don't show on all vehicles is because they'd be rendering the scene several times over again. As far as mirrors go, they could be done similarly, but there's probably some reason they haven't done it as of yet.
Yeah, pretty much. I was told by the Devs that the scenes are based on the vehicle the player is in, and because of that the reflections on other vehicles wouldn't accurate. And as far as mirrors go, I figured there's a nice way to do them as I mentioned earlier
