Well after many weeks of work I feel I've created a semi realistic grass that is usable for street driving and racing scenarios. In other words I made grass its own very unique material that doesn't act like a reskin of asphalt. This grass adds more feel, and roughness and makes it slightly harder to drive on. It is also much easier to flip on the grass at high speeds or if you enter the grass at an odd angle so beware. Some vehicles may flip easier in the grass than others depending on the tires, suspension, weight ect just like in real life. In conclusion it makes grass act like ACTUAL grass. How to install 1. Download the grass mod (you dont have to extract it) 2. Navigate to Documents\BeamNG.drive\mods on your computer 3. Click and drag "grassphysics.zip" into the folder and your done! 4. Load beamng and your good to go! BIG NOTE THIS MAKES ALL THE GRASS IN BEAMNG ACT LIKE THIS AND EFFECTS ALL MAPS AND TERRAIN! ALSO OCCASIONALLY THE BEAMNG FILES WILL REFRESH AND YOU'LL HAVE TO REINSTALL IT! FAQ Q: Is this the only release? A: No I'll likely occasionally tweak it to make it more realistic or incase something is wrong Q: Will you redo all the materials? A: Most likely no I only feel the grass is unrealistic in beamng but everything else is fine Q: Can the grass damage my car? A: That depends on the map detail. This only changes the material physics not the map surface. Q: Can the wheels dig into the ground? A: Yes, I tried to make this happen by allowing the wheels to sink slightly into the grass to try to simulate this. Also heres a small video of the grass in action @-V8- Nicely fixed the package so its easy to install so many thanks for this!
its a bit too sticky, you should make it more like mud, where if you go off you dont get much grip, but you can dig into it, and if you go into it fast you can roll. Fast means 150 mph.
If you saved the original (High recommended so you can revert) just copy and replace it with the original file
hey, do you know maybe why its not letting drag and drop your groundmodels.json file into to the art folder?
hey did you have a problem installing the mod into the art folder? for some reason, it shows a little red error icon next to the mouse cursor showing it cant be moved into that folder.
In real life if you slide into grass your car can roll even if you're only going 35 mph. Heck you can get some cars onto 2 wheels on the pavement doing 20. It seems like a lot of simulators get the whole rolling your car thing wrong, if you doing 80 on the highway and whip your steering wheel all the way to the left or right, at least one of your wheels is going up in the air. Roll over accidents happen all the time in real life.
@powiephenom this might be interesting to you: I managed to pack it into a mod that can be installed normally. The folder structure has to be: grassphysics.zip/art/ and then you just throw in the groundmodels.json file.
You can also upload it to the repo in mod-form. One mod (I don't remember the name it was something with shadows) also overrides the core files and wasn't removed.
yeah plz make it able to be installed like a regular mod in the next update, bc I can't seem to install the mod the way you said.
