Hello Everyone, When I play BeamNG, I like to create video's of it. I like the new updates and all, but one thing that is missing for me is a new Graphics Engine! I like to see an upgrade in the anti-aliasing feature, since this one is a little outdated (the aliasing now is still visible in higher resolutions) and maybe also a change in overall lightning and ambient occlusion. When the game looks more realistic, the video's and gameplay become more fun and immersive. This would drag the game into the new generation graphics wise, since this wouldn't be a problem anymore with the strong graphics cards these days including the upcoming rtx 3000 series. this would create so much more potential for BeamNG! Thanks for reading, I hope you agree!
Agree 100%. BeamNG looks like it’s from 2012 (which it is.) but for a game in 2020 it’s not acceptable really.
PBR alone would help this game a ton. Obviously a ton of work associated with something like that though.
nice pfp btw Honestly now that i think about it the graphics engine is probably fine, its just the textures in this game, mostly the nature textures, are just crap. trees and foliage look like they are from 2007.
I agree, I feel like textures, materials and models, with changes to lighting, can transform the game without doing too much heavy lifting.
You can always try some of the gfx mods out there. For context Ive received the response when i for example tried to get SSAO2 (a newer version of Ambient Occlusion) working that it used an old outdated way and that new things were coming. Got that response maybe 2 yrs ago. Ive had a lighting mod out for years now due to the same reason you posted, started with Reshade mods but wanted to contribute to Beamng without using an overlay and honestly alot can be done just changes things here and there in the game files, not necessarily remake the whole gfx part of the engine. Heres what it looks like now. Lately ive been using a more heavy way of doing it, so fps drop is real: https://beamng.com/threads/graphics-mod-alternative-lighting-part-2.71585/page-2#post-1209386 It does this: Increased Brightness for each level (thats the big fps dropper, but it also makes the specular, normal, bump maps crispier, for example the tarmac on Small island) Changed colors for the sun color gradient throughout time of day to make light at morning and evening brighter without midday being overblown bright, also changed the color to my liking Decreased sunsize Chosen a different sun flare texture, beamngs has a few to choose from Changed size of that sun flare texture Changed a few of the limits or adjustment increments in the PostFx application Changed code and values for part of the tonemapping, making the black/white/color balance abit more aggressive when the balance is uneven between them Increased SSAO resolution for the HIGH setting Adjusted the PostFx values to suit the above stuff to my liking Below are the two latest vids, using this new way. PLEASE NOTE that they are too dark, something with the codec in Nvidias screen recorder when i upload the vids to Youtube fecks up the gamma.
Thanks Brother_Dave, the colors and shadows look better now! I still hope BeamNG upgrade their graphics to make it truly next gen.
Don't forget that the devs have been updating the graphics over the years, just not dramatically enough that most people will notice. Here's an example of a lighting update they did a few updates ago:
BeamNG is from 2013, that's 7 years old. Please put that into consideration. Also their main focus is not graphics, it's physics. How would it improve potential? What can you do with better graphics, that you can't without?
What good are realistic physics if there aren't realistic graphics to go along with them? BeamNG is becoming more "game-like" every day. "oh its a simulation not a game so the physics are the only aspect that should be focused on" is not only an ignorant viewpoint, but also an outdated one.
yeah, like what good is a simulator when it still looks like dookie from 2012 by the time this game turns into a full release, which will take at least a couple of years, probably even more, the graphics will be beyond obselete, probably considered retro tbh
Just be patient. They've been developing this game for so long and they're nowhere near done with it (which is amazing since they've already done so much for it). I'm sure new things will be added. We already got a lighting update, not to mention the remastered maps and cars. I guarantee you graphics are next up on their list. They'll eventually get around to it. To me, the graphics are phenomenal as-is, I don't know how you guys can complain about it. The only gripe I might have is dynamic reflections, because they look... kind of meh. Especially since things like shadows and roads among other things don't show up in them. Plus, it'd be cool to have the cars reflect off themselves (like how a D-Series's own tailgate can reflect off its shiny new chrome rear bumper). Apart from that, I appreciate it as it is. You also have to keep processing power in mind as well, that's the biggest factor. People are already complaining that this game is making their Celeron craptop catch fire so...
This is why i would want 2 versions of the game, a legacy version for people with celeron craptops, and a preformance version for people with a 3080.
I don't think there should be 2 separate versions of the game that only have different graphics. I think the devs could just expand the graphics settings so there could be a potato computer mode and an Ultra mode. No need to switch to another engine. Edit: This game, in my opinion, looks great. Now, if you compare it to DriveClub's graphics, then BeamNG.drive looks like dog doodoo, but for the game engine that BeamNG uses, the graphics are great.
Well I just feel it's partly some people's faults for still having a craptop in this day and age anyways. Budget laptops and desktops with actually decent specs have become literally dirt cheap these days. Like... it's 2020, why do you still have a Celeron or an AMD Athlon-powered computer?
Yeah. I bet used 2080 TIs are gonna be dirt cheap now. like 350 dollars. then grab a second hand 1st gen ryzen 7 for like 200, some cheap ass ram for 50, and a cheap case and some fans.
