Modeled and JBeamed a new engine, moved seat and simulated driver weight to the left slightly to balance out the lateral weight distribution.

Made a lot of progress last night. Mostly flexbodies and props, but I've done some slight handling and tire changes as well.

Very nice. Will there be body panels for it or do grandprix karts always run bare frames

These karts from 1980 to 1991 had no such body panels.

What you may be thinking of are superkarts, who are a whole nother kind of AWESOME (Like, faster laptimes than F1 at Adelaide circuit!)

they weigh less than superbikes, have like 100hp, tons of grip, and can easily do 100mph.

Yup. I actually really want to make one in Beam, but I have no knowledge of modeling or jbeam, sadly..

Ah I see. I thought it was gonna look like something similar to this.

(I'm a bit of a mod collector lol)

Most of the time I think of a racing go kart I think of a bodied race kart with a 2 stroke dirt bike engine on it. Also the sound of the go kart in the video is perfect. The idle is super realistic along with the high rpm sound

Having driven some karts myself, I can second that. Very realistic sound!

    That gave me an idea.

What do you think? I think these plastic bumpers would be a nice option if people wanted to add them. It would add some skinning potential as well, which would be pretty nice.

Karts didn't really start to get this sorta bodywork till the early 2000's. If you want to have a little bit more period accurate body work you could do this.

I may just add different body kits representing different eras of karting, with the bare frame being the default as it is the most historically accurate for this kart.

Anyways, not much model progress today, but I'm working on cutting down the weight. I found a source stating that karts from the 1980s weighed around 50kg (!!) which is absolute insanity.
Currently my kart is weighing in at ~90kg and I'm hitting limits on Beam stability here already. Old kart frames may have been more flexible than I originally thought...

could you make a lengthened version with a piccolina engine and transaxle? even with the stock intake and exhaust it would be pretty ridiculous.
