I don't get why people are trying to justify the poor quality of meshslaps. "They're just to look at" or "It was made as a joke" No, it's a load of bollocks. OT:
While I believe that making content from scratch is the best and most rewarding option, not everyone has the time/skills ect.. to do so, so I don't have any issues with people wanting to convert meshes from other games, or use meshes from other authors ect (I have done so myself on several occasions) That said, converting a mesh should not be an excuse to do less work, proper effort should be put into things like adapting/editing the mesh (optimising polyflow, underside/inner details ect..) to be on par to BeamNG's default content editing the JBEAM to properly simulate the characteristics of the vehicle in question ensuring adequate effort is put in to doing the conversion (ensuring textures are assigned properly, minimising shading/smoothing errors ect..) So when you get people who spend about 30 minutes to download a mesh from an internet, paste it over an unedited JBEAM, and then spend another 30 minutes assigning textures (although this step is sometimes even omitted) so they can use it for screenshots, it's kinda inevitable that some people will be annoyed by that, it comes of as arrogant and ignorant that said individuals expect the feedback/likes from their screenshots but are not willing to put in the work of serious modders. Sure, nothing has to be, or will be, perfect, I totally agree with you there, but there is a difference between a mod that is lacking 'perfection' from lack of experience, and one lacking 'perfection' because the creator is too lazy to do any better. And trust me, we can tell the difference I get that there isn't so many car mods compared to other games (thanks in part to the added hurdle of JBEAM for mod development), but I like to believe in the concept of quality over quantity (and when you really think about it, there is already quite a few official dev vehicles, as well as well made community mods, and that number will likely continue to increase over time ) tl;dr why waste time making low quality mods that pleases no one, when you could strive to make quality content that makes the community a better place and helps the modding community grow?
Patiently waiting for the new pre runner. On a side note this thing looks so much like a ford its weird.
