BeamNG on a potato is sometimes better than on a high end PC?

    Hello

I was thinking about this for a while today, I have only recently got a decent PC (last 2 years) previously I always had crappy ex-office pcs and dell Optiplex's.

loads of the time I played beamng regularly, (when I played it religiously 2015 - 2018) I always had a pretty bad computer. it was a Packard bell extreme with a core i3 530, 6gbs ddr3 and a gt730. before that it had a "get 640" this was an eBay scam card.

that PC "ran" the game ok. at least for me at the time. I got around 20 fps on ecu and dri. it was certainly better than the integrated graphics on the i3 530.

I remember there was a time when I had so much lag, travelling across ecu would take multiple hours.

i also, relied heavily on mods primarily from the beamng forums and world of mods (since stopped). where the eBay gt640 would not allow me to play certain maps without bsoding the computer, it was always a gamble if it would work. i would spend hours going through these websites looking for mods that functioned and constantly ended up crashing my PC. despite being annoying, I still loved the game and the computer.

it was only in 2017 when I bought a computer with an fx6300 and 12 gbs of ram. I could actually play the game well.

despite playing the game at a constant 60fps is fun, I miss the days when the game crashed constantly, and trying to keep it stable was a part of playing the game.

i plan on recreating 2016 with an old dell computer and using old mods. ill likely use one of the old betas that come with the game. i have my 2 gts 250, qx6700 dell, might use that. (in signature)

what do you guys think? miss old beam, prefer new?

i love the game as it is, however, i did like it how it was??

Isn't the game already unstable enough?

I remember the days of low fps too. I used to borrow my grandmas spare laptop for the year(I didn't consider it mine because she took it to Florida each year.) to be honest it was not a great computer to begin with but i was not old enough or smart enough to understand that i was only getting 5 fps. the first thing i ever did on it was drive a pigeon with a trailer on east coast USA. as time went on i eventually (with help from my cousin) realized that if i put the game to the smallest setting i would average 10 fps on the official maps and would reach 15 on many small modded ones such as gull coast.(i got 20 once because i was in a pigeon) eventually i built a home made manual shifter and my grandma was so amazed that she started looking up computers. by now I partly knew what i was talking about and was going on and on about all the technical things the computer would need and she pretended to understand. in the end my gpa dad and i went 33% each way and i now have a lenovo idea pad that gets 30 fps and can run 3 cars at 18 fps. but back to the topic, the other day i stumbled across some footage of game play on the old laptop. i was getting 10 fps on jungle rock island and i jumped off the mountain by the observatory.(it looks like 3 fps because windows game bar is NOT good at recording screens) while watching this i thought that it looked somewhat like slow motion. so i guess non intentional slow motion gives more time to think. anyway those were the good old days of playing beam and you certainly have a point

    thankyou

i completely agree. for m i used to play on an i3 530 Packard bell desktop and my first memories were going across eca in the box van

a solid 2 ish fps. but at the time it was really fun as it was all i had. there was no chance 14 year old me could afford a gtx card.

Uhm ok? In my opinion, I prefer electronic hardware and peripherals to simply work. I don't mind maintaining them at all, but it simply gets frustrating after a while when something is stubborn and doesn't work. Sofware wise, I cannot stand to fiddle around with it and fighting it to make it work. Not trying to burst your bubble, but I think it's more fun to actually play the game smoothly with good performance rather than playing with 20 some FPS on a potato. My specs (In sig) run Beamng well (60+ FPS). ;)
