Recently, I decided to uninstall my HEAVILY modified version of BeamNG.Drive.
I had no texture for the pickup.
I downloaded my new, unmodified version of BeamNG.Drive and I was confronted with a multitude of problems.
The two largest being the fact that "libbeamng.x86.dll" was missing from my download, and that my "update.exe" file is a notepad text file.
    HELP!

Update.exe probably got renamed Update.exe.old during the update process, which then failed. Rename it back to Update.exe and it should work fine.

    It is already named "update.exe"
When I examine it closer, I notice that the file type is "OLD"

That's what he kinda just said, the update.exe probably hand it's type changed to .old, which now makes it update.exe.old, so it's not an exe anymore. Try removing the .old on the end, it should return to exe format.

actually it just means you have file extensions turned off so its hiding the .old.

Quickest way to change it that I can think of. Open the beamNG folder, press alt+D which will highlight the folder address in the URL bar, control+C to copy. Windows key + R opens the windows run dialog, enter "cmd" and click ok or hit enter which will open the windows command prompt. Then type "cd " then alt-space, press e, press p, press enter. Finally, "mv update.exe.old update.exe".

Or if one doesnt want to do it the üb3r l33t pr0 way then you could simply turn on file extensions and see for yourself that it is called update.exe.old and rename it the usual way. But I like CLI

EDIT: the section I have bold-italic-underlined I have just found a faster solution for.
BeamNG folder, alt-D, just type cmd and hit enter and it will skip the section I just highlighted above so you can skip straight to mv update.exe.old update.exe

do you have file extensions hidden on your pc? if so turn it off, or if you have 7-zip or winrar you should be able to go to the directory and change it through the renaming in 7-zip or winrar. or ^that XD

    The "üb3r l33t pr0" way has worked.
Thank you all for your helpful suggestions.
