Not gonna sugar coat it and say no cause its entirely possible it contributed but it would have contributed in the same way as someone asking if he was ok or something else mundane. Unfortunately serious mental health issues can be triggered by the tiniest mundane interactions, these unless purposely malicious are not your fault nor his its just a side effect of serious mental health issues. Personally although difficult to suggest would say to move forward as cold as it sounds you have to not let it weigh you down, if you do then the cycle of serious mental health issues may never end, if you need to talk it out I would suggest finding a person to confide in(loved one or a school counselor would be best).
