Yeah, any porting is probably happening after release v1.0 so that the don't run into any issues later on.

Yeah thats what I would suspect, but since we are in version 0.19 territory expect that to be out within like maybe 5 to 10 years depending on how long they take between updates dont expect it to be version 0.20 console release thats unacceptable and unreasonable on the dev team, its better to have a finished game on the Windows platform before porting it to Console

Breaking news: BeamNG.2030 finally ports to PS5.

I suspect the timeline will be finish the missing core stuffs (tire physics, continued updates to sound and lighting) for 2020-late 2021, career mode late 2021-mid 2022. After that shift focus to content and other desktop based operating systems, with consoles coming after those ports if they go well.

I wonder why you keep mentioning tire physics as missing stuff?

I really hope that the game is completed this year or early next. It's been in development for at least eight years now, which is extremely long for a single game. I personally don't think that ports should be a priority until then, as managing even more versions at once is going to complicate things even more.

On the console front, I really don't think it would be a good experience. BeamNG is really designed solely to be PC software. Besides button mapping and power limitations, modding might not be allowed on major consoles, and content creation would be likely impossible using console versions of the game and thus you would be stuck with the base game with little ability to modify it. If there are ports, it would only make sense for them to be on other computer operating systems rather than consoles.

I don't think console peripherals are a problem at all. The important bits can all fit onto a standard gamepad, and some improvements to certain systems would make that even easier than it already is. Besides, as I mentioned earlier you can always just plug in a keyboard for modern consoles. As for hardware, the next gen consoles are at least good enough to have the conversation.

As for mods, that's the situation for the vast maority of console games but they all still have an audience. And by the time Beam would be ported, there ought to be a healthy amount of content. It would be more than frustrating if this game is still light on content by this point in my figurative timeline.

As for the rate of development... The company is growing still, and different teams can work on different things. Yes it's been a long development cycle, but considering that just 8 years ago there was only 4 people...
I agree that ports should be last/near last in the development timeline. Personally I would've waited longer to hire someone to handle ports, but maybe they are expecting that position to take awhile to fill. Regardless, it's up to Fischer. He knows his plans and recources better than any of us on the forums do. The pace of vehicle content does frustrate me, but that's another topic.*

*I'm sure someone's going to ask me about that...
Yes I know unique vehicles are recource intensive to make and certain things like drivetrain customization is complicated, but there isn't a single car in game that has much to personalize. Even the D-Series, with it's 53(?) configs, only recently got more than one hood option, and even now it's just cowl, factory, or factory with 2 holes**

**Getting really off topic now... Being that the bed cover automatically gets the pass through thingys for the roll cage if both are installed, can't hoods automatically get holes in them for through hood exhaust?

And this whole thing reminds me of the obvious: We still have no idea what the long term plans are regarding the game. This is over three years old, and a lot has changed since then. The devs are pretty good at communicating short term projects, but terrible at communicating long term plans. No offense, but it's true. This game has been in development for over eight years, and who knows how much longer it will continue? It's hard to see where they want to go with the game if they keep dropping the ball on communicating their long term goals to the community. I'm still not sure why we haven't seen another major blog post on the overall plans for the game, and maybe a general time frame that they are aiming to release the "release" version* in.

*By release version, I mean the version in which the game leaves early access (1.0). Like many games, there will probably be additional content and updates past 1.0, but 1.0 would be the point at which it would be considered a complete and finished product ready for release.
