Well, first off, from the big man himself... And like I have been saying... its not impossible... but its just not up to the dev's standard yet... Also, incase you haven't seen it yet... https://www.beamng.com/threads/beam...p-formally-local-multiplayer-lua-based.63052/
if an idea is good its good to throw it. I just get upset at people simply requesting it. I dont want to see people offering alt solutions discouraged.
I think its possible if you dont run the Physics on a server. If you run the Physics of each vehicle on the User's PC its maybe possible to make a MP without much lag since the car isnt rendered on the server. The server would only send packages from the User's PC to another User's PC and so on.. Maybe that would be possible. Sorry for my bad english,m i am a German
The problem with this is the physics runs at 2000Hz and each beam/node is updated at that speed, trying to get that over a network is nearly impossible with the way things are right now.
--- Post updated --- If that were possible the issue there is lag could potentially cause things to explode and things matching screen to screen would be incredibly unlikely... especially with lag being a factor. In that scenario the server is sending location data.. if lag got cars stuck in things frame to frame it would cause havoc on the physics.. it'd be frankly kind of terrible and vehicle collision between each other would certainly be impossible without tons of issues.
