Well, I decided to investigate this little matter by doing a quick little speed test looking at both the speedometer of the car and the UI, and I can conform that the Pessima has a tiny bit of speedometer error, reading exactly 2 mph faster than what the car is actually going at.

I did my little speed test in a Pessima 2.0 LX w/automatic transmission.

Instruments are rarely (if ever) 100% precise in real life too, because they calculate how fast wheels are turning and they are calibrated around stock, brand new tires. Even slight changes to the wheel diameter (wear, inflation, deformation...) would affect readings.

It's not uncommon for speedometers to overestimate speed by +2%.

    Kmh? Mph? Potatoes?

    The speedometer shows both units:

As you see, 60MPH matches nearly 100KMH. I'm pretty sure you were checking MPH while the UI was showing KMH

is it possible that you have KPH displayed in the UI and are comparing it to the MPH instruments in the vehicle?
Edit guess I was a couple of seconds late here

The 90's Pessima speedometer, along with various gauges in a couple other vehicles, features a non-linear "tick" scale.
Compare the length of the sweep of 0 to 20 with 20 to 40 or any of the other larger numbers.

Problem is that Beam doesn't quite replicate this particular detail at the moment.
(Don't feel down though, a simcade commonly touted as having the best PC-specific visuals can't do it either)

To be fair, most of the Beam vehicles with linear tick scale could also use a little fine tuning in their min, max, offset, etc.

Seeing how vehicle speedometer values are currently the same as the wheel speed that is shown in the default UI (see the cars with digital speedometers), it's best to calibrate the analog speedometer "props" as accurately as possible for now. Especially considering that these readouts auto compensate for tire diameter, unlike real vehicles that have to base it solely on RPM.

Later, similar to modern vehicles, a variable could be added that manipulates the accuracy of the vehicle speedometer (or any other gauge) but not the game's UI readouts.
(E.g. a vehicle specific value of 4 means that it reads 4% high, the default is then set at 0 to ease compatibility, etc.)

    It will be interesting if tire wear is simulated at some point;
how should the game handle the UI readout and the vehicle's speedometer then?

Back on the 90's Pessima though, anyone here finds it odd how the rear suspension's trailing link is joined to the lateral link instead of the hub?

(Can of worms in the spoiler)
Would be neat if there were plans to implement more working old-style LCD type digital instruments across Beam. That clock has read 1200 for too long!

Design wise the middle rear seat is too wide, and the rear passenger windows are oddly large; it looks like the non-lowering section of glass was merged with the section that lowers.

From a personal preference standpoint, this vehicle needs a little mechanical revamp too.
My preferences are specs and chassis/drivetrain design that align with contemporary models that utilise the same or closely related platforms from a specific brand/conglomerate.

Now it's a somewhat large vehicle with 1-size too narrow tires that has a relatively small SOHC base engine and a medium-small size V6 as the top end. It's the one car I can't figure out the IRL mechanical origins of and it's perhaps just a bit too generic at the moment.

Perhaps it could be closer linked with a "world" car that, to save time for the vehicle team, would have been largely the same between the various developed markets currently depicted in Beam.

Which 90's midsize FF sedan had essentially the same chassis between the NA and EU markets? (And possibly the JPN and Australasian market too) Maybe the NA market in Beam did not have such a need for imported wide body passenger sedans?
And which models survived in high enough numbers to realistically fit in with traffic in the world of Beam despite being 20 years old? (Close to opening a compressed tank of worms here on future vehicle suggestions)

The concept of a world car is why I currently really like the 800-Series, it has bits and pieces from various internationally sold German-developed models of the early-mid 2010's that utilise the front McStrut/rear multilink platform and is the sort of thing that largely fits into every map in game, though maybe even better if it was a sedan body type for the US maps.

The Mazda Cronos/626 comes to mind, although the '96 Pessima might just be an USDM-only model for all we know, like the coeval Honda Accord.

Yes. Just sent one more message inadvertently.

Does anyone know what the font style for the '88 and '96 Pessimas are? I'm trying to re-name them (because who would ever call their midsize sedan "the worst"?), but I want to try and get as close as possible to the original fonts.

The 1988 Pessima uses a font close to either 'PT Serif' or 'Constantia' in bold, both look very similar so you could probably get away with either one.
PT Serif is free AFAIK, so if I didn't already have both, that's the one I'd choose.

I initially thought that the 96' Pessima used 'Orbitron', like the 200BX, but after looking again I realised I'm way off.
Definitely something similar to Orbitron, Eurostile, and other similar fonts. So starting with those would probably be best?

Unfortunate that a dev probably couldn't just hand you the .ttf for the font, what with the copyright and all.
Real shame because it would save me a lot of time trying to recreate all of the car logos too.

    Edit;

After a quick search it looks like the 96' Pessima uses something similar to a font called 'Sui Generis' in italic.
costs £2.99 though so I'm currently looking for a free alternative.
    It's free on dafont
