Welcome to the free market, folks. Vote with your wallets. I personally am not a big fan of paid mods, so I won't buy it. You can if you want, but nobody is forcing you to, and there's really nothing predatory or unfair about what aljowen is doing. End of story, although I will warn against conflating "paid mod bad" rants with legitimate criticism of the mod itself.

It seems like people here really enjoy paying for stuff that we used to be able to get for free. Defintively liked the old "early access" patreon system, and the "here is my full mod, have fun. If you think i did great work, here is my paypal". I literally cant wait for this game to become Train Simulator or FSX/Xplane but with cars. Maybe then we would get good paid mods, the ones that actually look like they deserve the money.

To the contrary, I think there's been enough of a negative response to deter such practices in the future. I wonder how many people have actually bought the full mod?

Vote with your wallets isn't really a good analogy when one option is free. No matter what happens, the person who asks for money will be either no worse off, or better off financially speaking.

Generally speaking I wouldn't class the response as being that negative. Some people don't like it, that's fine.

I could pay for the config if I wanted to, but I don't need the race and rally configs and I'm okay with just the free configs :)
Srockzz, You are making some really good points about this whole mod thing. I know a lot of people on here are going to disagree with me on this, but I really do think that having a Patreon account and doing the mod thing like bob.blunderton is doing with Los Injurus would be a great idea.

By the way, there was a 1 star review for this Raven R20 mod. I didn't write the review. Someone else did. Here's the review.

"I hope you [BLEEP]ing choke. Paid mods are scum and you should feel awful."

I really regret that pay mods have such a bad opinion. First I don't know really why? I would love to keep making mods, but I'm in college, I don't have much free time. if there will be a possibility to get something more than some good (and bad) feedback I will make next FR20 or finish Ford Focus RX. It takes a lot of time, today It took me a few hours just to fix FR17 to the new version of game. Nearly no one who isn't in school can't spend so much time to make mods.

Welcome to the internet, where everyone is an asshole. I myself am guilty of that frequently.

Bottom line is, people've gotta make there hustle and pay the bills somehow, a couple bucks getting chucked in because some people on patreon wanted to support Al probably helps. It's not like it's going towards something bad/illegal like drugs (Which is why i'll never make a payed mod, don't trust myself not to spend all earnings on MDMA immediately) he's just tryna get by.

They made it, so they have every right to ask for compensation for extra content. THE BASE MOD IS FREE, you are not required to pay to get the mod. They have every right to ask for some compensation and as a reward you get some extra things. IT IS NOT UP TO YOU. They have every right to do this. There is no need for further conversation. It does not matter if you think it’s unfair, life is unfair, get tf over it. If you don’t wanna pay then don’t pay. THEY TOOK THEIR TIME UNPAID TO MAKE SHIT FOR YOU, they have EVERY right to try to get a LITTLE bit of compensation for it. Stop being so fucking entitled and get over it.

it costs 1 fucking dollar people for a lil this and a lil that added to the already very epic Raven R20.
    like come on guys
    its not even mandatory!
just because someone asks for a few bucks to help further themselves or the mods development doesnt mean they are Satan!
Both ItsYourBoi and Blijo ask for donations in their mods, which is completely respectable and within their rights. And people dont bitch at them.
but as soon as there is content on the line oh boy we get to see all of the entitled brats come out...

This thread is useless and needs to be shut down

    EDIT:
its not just 1 dollar its a range of prices, but nonetheless my point still stands.
and even then, Aljowen gave you choices to donate and you will still get the same content for the lowest or even the highest amount of money possible to donate!

I'm not being entitled, I'm realistic - and the current realistic baseline price of a mod is exactly $0.

I mean, there is always going to be *that* guy/gal. But hey, its the games industry, people wishing death upon you isn't something unexpected. Even when you have given them something for free.

You arent obligated to pay, its simply a reward if you support him, so if you dont want to pay then just download the mod and get on with your life. You arent entitled to anything, so be happy he even had a free part of the mod.

There's lot of contrasted opinions in here, which is absolutely fine as far it's done in respect of each others, but let's clear the situation.
The mod comes in two parts:
    1. The base vehicle, which is free.
    2. The extra parts, which is pay-what-you-want (from slightly cheaper than a Starbucks coffee, and with Paypal availability for your safety), and not required for the base vehicle to work (ie. optional).

The base mod is free. If you like it, and want to support its author, you can donate something and you get some extra parts for the mod as well. This being entirely optional and not forced down in any way.

Generally we have no issues with creators charging for their mods,
and in this particular case the formula seems very fair, and everything was handled correctly, so it's no problem for us for it to be there.
However if you are thinking of doing this, it would be better to get in touch with us first so that we can provide some guidelines and define some limits.

Please beware to take as official statement only words from the staff (unless indicated otherwise by us).
A user saying this stuff does not belong here is obviously expressing his own opinion, but it does not reflect ours.
So be wise, and especially do not force your opinions into others.

Additionally, those who express their opinions via particularly rude manners or death threats will be banned from here.
Such conducts are clearly defined as no-no in our website rules ( https://wiki.beamng.com/Forum_Rules)

Paid mods are quite a real thing in the simulators world.
Software like X-Plane or FSX have had them for years, with quite high price ranges.
Other like RFactor or Assetto Corsa have both free and paid mods, with no issues.
Developing a mod for BeamNG.drive can take even more effort and time than the software mentioned above, their author should be free to charge for their work if they want to.

Last, please clearly note that these transaction are not affiliated with BeamNG in any way.
This has been rightfully indicated by the author of the mod on its page as well.

[The powers that be shut the train door and pulled out of the station, (closed the original thread for further comment) before I had a chance to respond, so I'm starting a new post... as I feel I have the right to get my 2 cents in as well. I hope that's not taken the wrong way]:

I for the first time looked at the guy's offering online about 15 minutes ago. From what everyone was saying, I just assumed he was charging a *fixed price*. He's not. We have our choice of what we want to pay.
That to me is even more lenient than what everyone is making it out to be. This is not PAYware, it's DONATIONware. There is a difference. There is a range of prices to choose from.
I was okay with the idea to begin with, but now that I see it's only donation-ware, I am even more okay with it.

As Naedox said, (and I myself having come from the flightsim world as well), can attest to the fact that I know what real payware is.

-- When you're told the price of the Boeing 727 with the TWA, Eastern Airlines, and PSA liveries from the 1970's, and real mouse click operational cockpit is $65.00... "like it or lump it", then you'll know what real payware is.

-- Or when you're told that the cost of the 19m USGS sampled terrain mesh-- to make the elevation samples of the land below look more accurate, for the entire Continental U.S.-- costs $225; then you'll know what real payware is.

This doesn't even come close folks... not by a country mile.
